CJ 0 Posted April 14, 2010 So it was a longer than expected Honeymoon but it is over !As I repeatedly kept saying on this forum Lambert was being a fool for rewarding poor performances by keeping same players in squad. In particular for too long Doherty, Nelson and Martin seem to think they will be playing come what may. We have good reserves in Spillane and Askou.Competition for places is key to performance and we just do not have enough, even in midfield Lappin, Russell and Smith know their place is assuredWhat worries me is words from Lambert "Dont panic" well after watching the lethagy against MKDons I and many fans are. We have just lost to two very poor sides in Tranmere and Orient who earlier in season we would walk past. Lambert wake up and smell the coffee. Both Leeds and Millwall will be smelling blood now and Lambert has done absolutely nothing to install confidence in the squad. You can almost smell the fear when they come on the pitch. Even when they equalised against MKDons with six mins to go and ten men against them they didnt go for it. Pathetic! Our only hope now seems to be in the failure of others, so to compensate for a place in the playoffs and being thrashed by Southampton I am off to bookies to see if I can get decent odds on that happening

Lambert has stuck with the same team because the same team has been the best in this league over the season. Every single player on that pitch knows they can be replaced if they continually underperform. The decision for Lambert is whether or not to make those changes or let them play through it and rediscover their form. I agree with the sentiment that the Honeymoon''s over - we''ve had an amazing run and season and that is to Lambert''s credit but it is now when form disappears that he really earns his money. In which case, please explain how our only hope is in the failure of others?

militantcanary 0 Posted April 14, 2010 I think that the pop at Doherty is a little unfair though some of the old errors seems to be creeping back.I was Nelson''s biggest critic at the beginning of the season though he is generally been solid though agricultural in his distribution. I would have brought back Askou but he is rummoured to still be up to 2 week away from fitness which rules him out for the rest of season and Whitbread is not being trusted as previously out for so long, so the Manger''s hands are tied on this one to a degree.R Martin has been ok, now more no less, Spillane is unlucky.MK Dons was turgid and unispired, but there is no way we that "our only hope" lies in the failure of others, all we need is 1 win and the pressure goes right off, Leeds and Millwall are not smelling blood yet, and must feel that the mountain to climb is still there to overcome. I would refer you to Teamtealk "with Norwich set to be crowned as Champions who will be go up automatically with them?" The Manager is right we are in a very good position but there is work to do. Neither is Whitbread. We have plenty of competition for places in midfield, but Gunn''s squad of Gill, Tudur-Jones etc just aren''t good enough. We''re 6 points clear at the top of the league, 7 points clear of 3rd place. Jack Barak 46 Posted April 14, 2010 You are a real COCK!Lambert is God, the team he picks that has become so complacent has managed to create a lead so large at the top of the league we can lose toteams like Tranmere and Orient nd STILL be six points ahead of second and seven ahead of third. If this is your attitude when we play this well you will be slitting your wrists any other season, so I suggest you sling your hook and follow netball or something more suited to you! I wanted us to lose last night... that is why despite being skint I was at my 10th away game this season and more than likely will be at Charlton too.Don''t forget we got relegated in the first place because we have too many fans who couldn''t judge a thing about our team that season until it was far too late. I believe you were one of the many who thought that Roeder had a squad that was going to finish in the play-offs at the beginning of that season?
Jacko 0 Posted April 15, 2010 It''s an intresting point about competition particularly among the centre backs. While I guess Doherty and Nelson have known they will be guranteed a start for some time now I think there performances levels have largely remained high in that time which is a credit to them. There are clear limitations to both of their games and Lambert to be fair knows this as well. While the Doc and Nelson have played well they are a partnership which has come about more by accident than design. That was the reasoning behind signing Zak Whitbread. I have only seen the guy play one full 90 mins against Stockport, so I can''t make a personal judgement. However I have a good friend who is a Millwall season ticket holder and he assures me Whitbread is one of the top centre backs in the league. This is reflected by the coaching staff like Crook also rating him highly. Unfortunately injuries mean we havent seen the best of him. Askou has also been injured. Lambert can''t be blamed for our 2 best (in my opinion ability wise) centre backs being injured.
