When Saturday Comes 0 Posted March 25, 2010 I have absolutely no doubt that Lambert is staying with us, but if he comes out tomorrow in his Friday press conference and catagorically rules himself out of the Celtic job (now or in the summer) it would be a massive boost to everyone, fans and the club, and make for an even better, more vibrant atmosphere when Leeds roll into town. I would love it if he did this!
Heresyourfathersgun 0 Posted March 25, 2010 Unless he shows up at the Celtic pre match conference and is unveiled as their new boss!! I''m driving to Leeds in the morning - I''ll let you know if he passes me on the M1.
MartyC 0 Posted March 25, 2010 I think he''s already done that.Paul Lambert has quelled talk of him returning to Celtic to replace under pressure Tony Mowbray in the near future - or at any time in his career. The Norwich City manager, who captained the Hoops'' 2003 Uefa Cup final losing team, says that the thought of managing in a stale Scottish Premier League holds no appeal to him. Many Celtic fans have talked up the chance of their former midfield stalwart, a Champions League winner with Borussia Dortmund, returning after cutting his managerial teeth in the English leagues with the Canaries, Colchester United and Wycombe Wanderers. His Norwich team are currently leading the way in a competitive League One following their relegation last campaign. With promotion a strong possibility, the 40-year-old is forging a strong reputation for himself in England and has disappointed a hopeful Parkhead support by saying that the lack of competition in the SPL is partly to blame for his desire to manage outside of his home country."I had eight terrific years at Celtic but there comes a time when you have to cut your ties," Lambert told the Daily Record. "I still look for Celtic''s result and Seville will always remain the biggest disappointment in my football career. But the idea of coming back doesn''t appeal to me."I mean no disrespect to Scottish football but England is just a bigger place. I''m proud of my Scottish heritage but a move back home is not for me."The idea of playing the same club anything from four to six times a season doesn''t appeal to me."Lambert has previous SPL management experience, having set Livingston on their way to relegation in 2005 following a disastrous reign in what was his first job as a manager. During his short-lived spell he won just two games, leaving in February having failed to inspire his team, despite pulling on his boots again to shore up the midfield.A move to League Two team Wycombe Wanderers followed for Lambert in June 2006 and his finest hour came when the Chairboys held Premier League Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in the League Cup semi-finals, having eliminated top flight teams Fulham and Charlton Athletic along the way.He then stepped up a tier, joining recently relegated Colchester United. After a 12th place finish in 2008/09, the current campaign started with the U''s winning 7-1 away to Norwich City on the opening day. That result created a vacancy at Carrow Road shortly after, which Lambert stepped into. He has since transformed their fortunes and, with 25 wins from 38 games so far, is statistically the club''s most successful manager to date with regards to the percentage of games won.
