birchfest 401 Posted March 20, 2010 No, 20 goal striker who is still fit should be on the pitch, especially for the biggest game of the season.

Hopefully Lambert will have a quiet word with him.
Jack Barak 46 Posted March 20, 2010 He should play, he works hard for the team and as long as one of the front three are scoring then I think it is fine. A full season this year will help him again next year, just like his season at Luton has helped him this year.

Hooleyfan 0 Posted March 20, 2010 Apart from his free kick, Martin didn''t impress today, but I think that he needs to get ball slightly deeper and able to play in and around the box more. He was playing in wide positions which left fewer targets in the box. Macnamee would have got those balls into him and Holty.
Europe_93 50 Posted March 20, 2010 On todays performances I would keep Martin in. I thought he did plenty for the team, at times he and Holt were a bit too far apart, in the 2nd half holt was pulling out to the left wing. I''m not sure whether this was Holts attempt to pull on to the full back, I thought both their centre backs were decent, so can see why he may do that, but just makes things tough for Martin. It was only the warm up, but some of Martins finishing is top quality, a class above the others, even Holt. The goal by Holt today was great movement across and in front of the defender, and in the 90 were it counts.
Bovril 262 Posted March 20, 2010 Holt is ALWAYS going to pull out to the wing to try and get the balls whether you tell him to do that or not, he''s done it his whole career, unfortunately this leaves the gap between him and martin to be too big...I think it was also fairly evident today how narrow the game was, as swindon switched their normal 4-4-2 to match our diamond, hence the stalemate...the game was crying out for width and a winger reallyHowever back to chris martin, everybody know''s he''s the best finisher at the club and this is his game, though in games of few chances (like today) then he will look really poor...in my opinion he''s a bit like michael owen, looks woeful until he''s given a chance and buries it... paul moy 235 Posted March 20, 2010
No, 20 goal striker who is still fit should be on the pitch, especially for the biggest game of the season.
20 goals, but only 2 in the last 8, and 4 of the 20 were against Paulton. His credit is starting to run out IMO, but I''d still stick with him and hope he can overcome his drop in form as we are virtually promoted anyway. If promotion was touch and go I would definitely rest him.

I wasn''t at the match (Neil), but sounded like the only difference between the front two today was that Grant had one put on his head, but Martin could only find the woodwork. Besides which, other people have said Holt was quite lazy getting back from offside positions today? I think Martin has earnt a little rest after the Leeds game, but to say he doesn''t work hard because he doesn''t run around like a headless chicken is ludicrous. Too many people confuse lack of pace with laziness.
Lambert is King 0 Posted March 20, 2010 Personally I dont see how Johnson or Elliot over 90 minutes would change things. IMO we would be bringing in a lesser player for a huge match. By all accounts today Elliot missed the sort of chance that Martin often scores. I am probably one of those people that sometimes think Martins not doing anything today, but so often he scores. Boyo 0 Posted March 20, 2010 I wish people would stop moaning about Martin''s work rate. He''s a striker, he is a poacher and his style of play is that he is quite lazy, seems out of the game but when he gets the ball in the box he comes alive. He has got 20 goals this season with that kind of play and how can you complain about that. The best goalscorers in the world are lazy, Owen, Defoe, E''too (sp) and Chris Martin is a goalscorer and if he scores goals by being lazy then so be it.By the way, no I wouldn''t drop him becuase if he gets the ball in the box he is likely to score. More likely than Oli, becuase he is a striker, but not a natural goalscorer.

But Holt is still scoring regularly and getting on the ball, whereas Martin seems to be drying up. Like I said I agree he should be playing against Leeds, but we all know hes a bit tempestous, hopefully Lambert will have a word with him and get the best out of him again. grantroederdisaster 0 Posted March 20, 2010 I thought Chris Martin was our poorest player yet nearly won it for us with the free kick that he was unlucky to see hit the bar!You can''t argue with 20 goals but he has to pull his finger out!I''d start him next Saturday!
