If they can edge their way in to the play-offs then you would have to put your money on them  to win them and gain promotion.  I think it might be a case of too little too late for them this year though, but expect them to steamroller this league next season if they are still down here.

We should be lucky that we haven''t got to play Southampton again this season, they are on a roll 5:0 ve Huddersfield what a cracking result for us, the best Southampton can hope for is the Play off''s and they have to play leeds and Swindon which I expect them to win which will help our cause for the top 2, I wouldn''t fancy our chances of being in the Play off''s with them so we need top 2, I think Southampton will reach the play off''s and win

Would it make any differnce if we did have to play them again? We only got 1 point from the last two times we played them.

Southampton won''t get near the playoffs and I wouldn''t be surprised to see their results tail off after the JPT final at the end of March.

I always thought they would sneak into the playoffs, but they had a dodgy run around Xmas. If they get there, which now is tough, they will walk it.

As long as it''s mathematically possible I wouldn''t rule them out. 14 points off Huddersfield having beaten them 5-0 this week, with two games in hand, so if they win those they would be 8 off with 13 to play. In this league it is definitely possible.

Southampton are now the best team in the division and could quite possibily make the top six.Absolute nailed-on for promotion next season if they fail this time.

I think you will find that Millwall are currently the best team in the division, Southampton lie third behind us....

If Southampton gain half a point a game over 6th placed Huddersfield on average, as they have done in the last 6 matches, they will have gained 7 points over their remaining 14 matches.  The gap between them and Huddersfield is 16 points.  Even when you consider games in hand, the gap is just too big for them to bridge.  Not to mention that they are yet to play the better teams in this division.  And when you consider that Swindon, Millwall, and Colchester are form teams too, you''d have to look at Charlton and Huddersfield as the two to drop to enable Southampton to get into the top 6.

I remember very similar arguments put forward why we would not catch Leeds this season, a month or so back, while I was arguing that we would. Look what happened !!

Past form does not always bear relation to future form, as crucial injuries and loss of form can happen.  The bottom line is that Southampton need to win their two matches in hand and then acquire effectively 3 more wins than Huddersfield can get out of 12 games.

If the odds offered are good, I may be tempted to have a wager.

[/quote]bet365 are offering 7-1 on a Southampton promotion.  For a top 6 spot, I''d guess that 5-1 would be fair.
