You are Paul Lambert...

Recommended Posts

...and you notice that your celebrated captain Grant Holt is not playing well at the moment. Do you:

a) say nothing and assume his form will return

b) drop him and tell him that he''d like to give another player a chance

c) tell him he''s not performing and that he''ll have to be dropped if he doesn''t improve

d) tell him he''s not performing but that you have faith in him rediscovering his form and keep him in the team.

I think/hope Lambert would do D!

Ask the same questions again but replace Grant Holt with Simon Lappin. Would he/you do any differently?
D but be thinking C. No one should be untouchable in any football team!
Unless of course you find yourself without a suitable replacement for said player that is.[:)]

True, if we had another ''big man'' in the team I think Holt could have been fighting to keep his place off the back of his last 3 games, but I have complete faith in him to pick it up again!

Should really add this one from the Glen Roeder management handbook (available in all sh*t bookshops):

e) drop him immediately and say nothing
Holt was out for three games and like the start of the season he just needs games to build up the goal power.........
I agree... Fat Boy ''Holty'' probably had one two many pints or pies during his 3 match lay off.... he will soon be banging them in again.Let''s not forget that without his fantastic shot which Oli turned in to an empty net after the Southend keepers good save then we would of had a different result on Tuesday night.

You forgot to make a snide comment about him to the press first...

Hopefully D. Although to be fair to Holty I think he is the sort of player who is honest enough that he doesnt need to be told he isnt playing well at the moment.

c

No one is indespensible - we won the same number of points without him for 3 as with him,  and the quality of the team perfromances have not improved since he returned - so how essential is he??

He scoring record means he gets more chances and he is the club caption;  and he is definitely helped by not having an understudy;    but option is to adapt the diamond into the christmas tree with martin at the point and hoolahan and mcnamee playing off him,  or to go with oli and martin up fron with either hoolahan or mcnamee in the hole.  The xmas tree seems a better shape for the players we have and the fact that oli is 10 times more effective off the bench than starting
