Simon Lappin

Recommended Posts

I read a few posts after getting back from the game on Saturday about how Lappin was a MOTM contender. I must have been watching a different game. Firstly you can''t knock the guys passion because you can tell he loves playing for us. But for me I just think he is very average. He somehow has a reputation for being a good dead ball specialist yet his delivery into the box is close to poor. He gives the ball away a fair amount and the only thing he seems to have perfected is to shout and point at people. You cant argue that he puts a shift in but I really do think he is the weakest part of the side

You are entitled to your opinion. It is, however, tantamount to treason to question the ability of the King of Spain.

Jesus! It''s becoming like the last few seasons again on here recently.  [:@]Are you so bored with us winning that you''ve got to try and find players to have a go at? Lambert thinks Lappin''s doing a good job, he has plenty of midfielders to choose from, as he has said, and to be honest I trust his opinion more than someone with two whole posts to their name.

Ha ha how did I know the two post thing would come up. Just because I have only just started using the forum doesn''t mean I haven''t been to the majority of home games this season. I have so therefore am fair placed to have an ''opinion'' (or is that not OK on a forum). As I said Lappin puts a shift in and runs around a lot but I just think for a midfielder he doesn''t do enough for me. Nothing against the fella I just dont rate him that much

I think, given where we are in the league and given how many games we''re winning it''s kind of bizarre to try and find a weak link in the team.

If you''ve got a weak link it suggests you''re carrying someone. I think we put out 11 players who have all played their part (and continue to do so) to put us where we are.

Not like last year when probably more than half of the starting 11 would have been weak links, players who aren''t going to give you 100% and fight for the shirt.

I''ve spent years working on my post count and some Johnny come lately comes on here largeing it and slagging off the King of Spain... [:D]You are perfectly entitled to your opinion (even if it is wrong) but someone with a  "controversial" view and 2 post counts does look potentially like a troll. I know, I shouldn''t rise to it, but Lappin is a constant part of a record breakingly successful team at the moment. Granted in League 1, but possibly a little support might be called for!

The beauty of an opinion is that to a certain extent it can''t be wrong. All I have said is that I dont think Lappin is as good as some people think. But as you say he is part of a winning side and thats all I am bothered about in the long run and he still got my support on Saturday regardless.

At the risk of my paltry post total counting against me, i have to agree with the original comment. I''ve seen a few games this season (7 or 8), and each time Lappins crosses/corners regularly end up straight in the keepers hands, he loses a lot of 50/50s, is pretty slow and some of his passing (which is meant to be his strength) is terrible. In his defence he does add a balance to the team, with him, rusty and Smith, it is a solid midfield allowing the front 3 to do their stuff.

I appreciate he does work hard and obviously Lambert is happy with his effort, but realistically who else is there to play left side? I dont think we have another naturally sided left footed midfielder. Hughes is naturally more right sided, otj is rubbish and out on loan, Adeyemi is more naturally central/right sided and Gill is a holding midfielder.

Lappin is ok at this level, but Left midfield would be an area i would hope we improve when we get promoted with Lapps as a squad player. As a replacement i would like to see someone like Brian Howard of Reading or maybe a Michael Tonge brought in, the latter would probably be out of budget, but if reading are relegated Howard would be affordable.

I dont want to have a pop at the team and i dont like to single out poor performances when the team is doing so well and nobody can take away what Lappin and the team have acheived, but i dont think he is gonna be good enough for the champ.

As i said at the start, i agree with the original post, but i wouldn''t drop him because we dont have a natural replacement really and it would disrupt the balance of the team.

I would say that Lappin is playing at the limit of his ability. He''s doing ok at this level but when promoted I would be very surprised if he has improved enough to cut it.

He has never performed well enough in the Championship yet. As for loyalty. What ever floats your boat. Nice guy I''m sure doing an ok job, but from what I''ve seen of his Championship performances, way short of the required standard.
