THAT police escort on the buses

Recommended Posts

It was a great laugh.

Got to Colchester at 10:30 and went to the Playhouse with loads on Norwich.

There were a bunch of Colchester chavs in there who thought they were out of ''the firm'' and were told to leave by the police for their own safety. Their faces as they did the walk of shame were a picture!!

Both the Playhouse and the buses were superb. We were upstairs on the second bus and it was old school songs all the way. If only the police laid on a free bus for us from the pub to the match at every away game!

Yes I was there for that as well.  Credit where credit is due the Essex police were spot on on Saturday, treated us like human beings and made sure we got to the ground on time.

The buses laid on for Norwich fans from the Playhouse is the subject of a thread on the ColU message board. They''re not happy! LOL

From ColU messageboard:

"wordsworth wrote:

Whose bright idea was it to send 3 shuttle buses into town to pick up the Norwich fans from the Playhouse, meaning that the other fans had to wait in the pouring rain for ages to get picked up. Whilst waiting for 30 mins around 2pm only 2 buses showed up and the queue stretched round the corner and up Mile End Road past the Bricklayers Arms.

The buses that went into town to get the Norwich fans ended up being caught in the traffic and made a complete mess of the shuttle system.

If the Norwich fans wanted to go into Town (their choice) then the Police should have marched them back rather than cock up the system for everyone else
.

Essex plod actually walk anywhere, you must be joking!!

As I understand it, the shuttles are contracted to the club, not Essex Police. They were for OUR supporters and any others who had made their way to Bruff Close, not to clear up away fans caused as a result of the idiotic decision to make the Playhouse an away pub.

Seems that our fans get shite on every time by the local police when a large crowd turns up.

Essex Police really haven''t got a clue when it comes to dealing with football matches, let alone a 10,000 capacity one, and I do speak from experience.

Oh that post from the Col U board has made my afternoon.  TBH we walked back to the station from the ground and it was not that far.  Dont know why the dozy Col U fans dont just walk. Prob because it was their first visit.

it wasnt colchester chavs though was it!? its not a designated away pub, and so a lot of people go there for breakfast before a game before going into pubs in town. it sounds to me a lot like the police just wanted somewhere to keep control of away fans and so chose to close off the playhouse to everyone else. there were people eating that had to suddenly leave, and people that ordered food had to get refunds and move on. there was no notice of this other than when they were all on their way.

im not suggesting its the fault of your fans in any way, more the police for pandering to the wants of your fans. would you stand for it in norwich city centre?

thanks for that [;)]

there are limited options in colchester for a cooked breakfast at 1030 am and even more limited if it has to be served with a lager.

we seem to get shat on from a great height by essex police at every opportunity.

When 70+ lads turned up from the 9.00am train the OB didn''t want them walking about town so escorted them to the Playhouse as it was open. They first had to surround and then escort out 20 Col U lads and put them in Yates. Their feeling was that it was easier to contain the group (plus 30+ others who arrived on the next train) in there and ferry them to the ground with buses rather than have them walk all the way with the risk of clashes. The fact that some other city fans (the ones singing) decided to come in as well meant the OB had to get three buses. I might add that there were still local people in the back of the place eating lunch right up to the time the buses arrived.
was awesome!! best away day ever..and the bus trip definately helped! wat an atmosphere!
Was a great day... but best away trip ever?  Not for me...  Hartlepool this season, the other week in Wycombe,  Sunderland, Watford and Burnley in our Championship promotion season to name just a few ones in recent years for me.Maybe this one would of been higher up the pecking order if I was sitting/standing with our boys instead of having to sit under cover and being ejected after the 3rd goal???

It has been really good since Lambert came in and long may it continue! It has been great visiting some new towns and grounds and winning nearly every week.  I have not seen us lose and have only seen us draw once (at Gillingham) all season.  This truly is an awful league though and I would not wish to be down here for 2 or 3 years or longer like Leeds or Nottingham Forest. We need to be promoted and then push on for a play-off spot in the Championship next season to keep all the fans onside and the momentum going!

My favourite away day was Fulham, winning and staying up, all the players giving their all, walking back to the car so happy. Oh..........
