Brendo 0 Posted January 19, 2010 I think were all forgetting something here. Charlton are on the same points as us if hey beat Hartlepool at home tonight. I think they have a good chance of promotion still, and even if they were on a bad run of form, that doesnt mean they are out of it by any means. It seems to me that everyone is sure we will definately get 2nd, and push for 1st, but were not even garunteed top 3. Charlton are the biggest risk to our top 2 place, and we need to assure we just keep winning, but be aware of them. However, they have very hard games at the end of the season, and that is why im very confident of a top 2 place.
cityislife 0 Posted January 19, 2010 Charlton are a good league 1 side, but thats it. They have been very lucky this season so far, theres no real quality in there side. Im confident play-off''s is there realistic target. :D
York Yellow 0 Posted January 19, 2010 yeh I agree with you, we need to keep a eye on charlton because they a a big threat to our automatic promotion hopes, much more than colchester or anyone else. However people are being postive and saying we will try to get first which is good but I would be happy with second at the end of the season. Charlton have quite a strong squad and are still in good form but those 3 draws they had at Christmas will hopefully be an advantage to us.
JF 694 Posted January 19, 2010 There is still a very long way to go. No one is talking about Col U now but if they win their games in hand the gap is only 3 points. If we all continue picking up the points we are then one team (hopefully Leeds!) will consider itself very unlucky come the end of the season.
Salford 0 Posted January 19, 2010 A reliance on too many late goals will be Charlton''s downfall. Will we be +50 GD by the end of the season?!
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted January 19, 2010 We are playing well and in my view have the strongest squad now of the top 3, but i agree we still need to be very cautious and there are many games left where we could drop a lot of points in particular at Home to Leeds, Southampton and away to Charlton, Huddersfield, Millwall, Swindon and Bristol Rovers. I expect the top 3 to drop quite a lot of points between now and the end of the season but i still fancy us for a top 2 especially after the Colchester result
Brendo 0 Posted January 19, 2010 I reckon have quality in their side. With Burton, Mckenzie and Mooney up front, Bailey and Shelvey in midfield.

Canary Man of Kent 0 Posted January 19, 2010 The way I see it, we need to finish above one of Leeds and Charlton (I''m putting Col U to oneside until they show some good form again). So, by aiming to finish above Leeds, it would seem to me to put us in with the best possible chance of being promoted. I agree that we can''t rule out Charlton or Colchester, but so long as our form is good and we are looking upwards and not looking nervously over our shoulders, I''ll be happy. Boyo 0 Posted January 19, 2010 It''s better to keep looking at top spot instead of looking over our shoulder at Charlton. Keeps everyone positive and makes us more determined to win and also that way the players can enjoy themselves while they play, instead of playing with fear.I do agree though that Charlton aren''t out of it but I think in the end we will be to strong for them. The way we are playing at home I can''t see anyone coming down here and beating us, also I think we are very strong away and can only see us dropping points at maybe Huddersfield and Bristol Rover and perhaps Millwall. I think we will get second but we can''t get complacent, but at the same time we should try not to worry about Charlton and focus on top spot.

Jim Smith 2,604 Posted January 19, 2010 Charlton have a tough end to the season but by the same token have quite an easy run of games coming up so its quite possible we will be neck and neck with them or even behind them going into the last month of the season. Despite an iffy run of late we have not shaken them off and I think they will be there at the wire. may all come down to our game at the Valley. Would be a delicious irony to seal promotion at the ground where we were relegated. By the same token though coulkd be dreadful if we went there and lost a 6 pointer. The way things are going one team is going to end up in the playoffs with over 90 points this season!

Salopian 1 Posted January 19, 2010 Charlton have a difficult run during April and May, including10th April away at Southampton17th April at home to Norwich24th April away at Exeter1st May home to LeedsI can see them getting a couple of draws, but no wins, unless they can beat us. This is a tough run of games for them, unless Leeds or Exeter go off the boil.We have maintained a good record, and we have a good back-up squad (-somebody posted a team made up of those who haven''t started a game for us this season, from Rudd to Johnson, and it looked good!). Sooner or later we shall slip on a banana peel, or fail to turn up as at Carlisle, but if we can pick ourselves up and regain confidence, I would pick us to finish above Charlton. Gingerpele 0 Posted January 19, 2010 Were not forgetting anything, its up to us, were in the better position atm, better form ect, there is no reason for us to not go up this season!

Hairy Canary 751 Posted January 20, 2010 One from Leeds, us and Charlton are going to end up third. No-one can be sure of a top two place, even Leeds which is remarkable considering where they were a few weeks ago.All I know is we have the best form over the last two months and if it keeps going like that we will finish top but obviously it could all change with a couple of iffy results. All we can do is keep going, keep confident and enjoy the moment
Northern Canary 0 Posted January 20, 2010 Atm we are the better side so if things continue I cant see them competing. Bear in mind that Charlton essentially also had a headstart while we had a goalkeeper in charge and yet we managed to catch up sooner than I would have expected.
