Is it really that big a deal?  They''ve cocked up, we''re suing them, I''d relax and let the legal bods kick it off.I mean, I''m not cancelling my Sky subscription over it.  Let''s hope the compo goes straight to Cowling so we don''t have to pay a penny of our own money for Lambert.  That would be justice enough for me.

getting on to my point ... in theory if a film star reads untrue articles in a sunday rag ,it could be worth alot in damages .

this is a fairly serious article to write regarding a clubs state of affairs without any evidence of it being true .

im just wondering how far city could take it ,as its not just in the news of the word ,but now spread to other papers.

and why did they do it ..? they nust have realised it could land them in hot water and a big bill at the end of it
I''m sure it could be worth a couple of hundred grand tops.Considering how often this newspaper gets sued I''d assume that they have a fairly big team of lawyers, who I doubt will be soiling themselves at the thought of our writ.

I hate these stupid papers for printing pure and utter bull poop.Somebody should just sack the editor. They just publish anything they want and ruin lives in doing so. Probably end in a lame apology in their paper which no one will read.

What would be really sweet is if we could sue NotW, and our payment covered Colchester''s claim on Lambert...
What would be really, really sweet is IF ( allegedly.... and all that ) Cowling was the source used by NOTW. We sue NOTW and NOTW sues Cowling. NOTW settles with us, we use that money to write a cheque to Cowling for the Lambert claim, and Cowling turns over the money to the NOTW. Then the NOTW would have a real story. Everyone''s happy. Except Cowling. [:D]

CHAIRMAN ON NEWS OF THE WORLD STORY

Posted on: Sun 24 Jan 2010

NORWICH CITY Chairman Alan Bowkett has confirmed the Club will be taking legal action against the News of the World for its story today (Sunday, January 24), claiming the Club could go into administration by Thursday and has called in financial experts Ernst Young and KPMG as potential administrators.

Bowkett told canaries.co.uk: "In all my years in working in corporate finance I have never read such tosh and complete fabrication. The News of the World will be hearing from our lawyers and we look forward to claiming substantial damages."

It''s an important point - stories like this get out into the wider world via the web and become ''true''. Suppliers and creditors start to get nervous, even though the ''story'' is retracted. A perception grows that there''s ''no smoke without fire'' etc etc

It''s serious stuff and I hope the journo gets his P45 as a result (though I doubt it very much).

If we sue for libel, there''s pretty much no limit on who we can blame.

We can sue the newspaper itself, the publisher, the editor, the journalist who wrote the story, the shops who sold the paper...hell we can even technically sue each and every paperboy who delivered it!

Of course we won''t take it to that level, but I see no reason why we can''t make a big statement (and a fair bit of cash) from this.

"News of the World, You''re Having a Laugh" would be a nice little additional song over the next couple of games as well eh?

Those calling for all NOTW journalists should know that the guy that writes our match reports is a City fan. He is a freelance that gets asked to write a piece each week. In fact he has previously also sold his reports to the Telegraph. For his sins, Tony also has to cover Ips**** home games...for that he has my sympathy. Just want to point out that he is not the same prick that wrote the crap this thread is about.

If the guess is correct the only club getting close to admin, is Notts County they have until wednesday to pay the Tax Man. Is a coinidence that they have the same initials as City   N.C.FC   or is it a case of malicious and Lazy  journalism ?  Either way it is good the club have issued a statement on a sunday to deny this fabricated load of lies.

I have to say I find it totally refreshing that the club has issued a statement almost right away, in Doomys day we would have either not got a statement or it would have been issued weeks later.

One thing I have learned about our new look board and particularly about our new CEO is you don''t p**s them/him off [Y]

Two points. Probably best not to get too excited at the possible damages, even if this goes to court and the club wins.Secondly, defamation is a very tricky branch of the law. The club''s solicitors will almost certainly have to hand this over to a specialist firm. The NotW''s lawyers will be experts in the subject; NCFC will need to hire similar.

Anyone with any legal knowledge who can estimate how much we are likely to get off of them? i''d take about 25 mil.

Any legal type people know how much we''re likely to get? Surely not a large amount, doubt it would get into the tens of thousands to be honest.

I''m no expert but reckon we could get a substantial amount in damages if the club play their case correctly.

All we need to do is go on about how we''re now receiving laughably low offers for our players and claim we''ve been done out of potential millions.... ;-)

There are two versions of defamation, libel and slander. Libel is when the defamation is written down (including email, bulletin boards and websites), and slander is when the incident relates to words spoken.

In the UK, if someone thinks that what you wrote about them is either defamatory or damaging, the onus will be entirely on you to prove that your comments are true in court. In other words, if you make the claim, you''ve got to prove it!

The proof is there to see on their website (libel), and in their paper (not read it, just assumed it had actually made the paper itself).
