morty 0 Posted January 11, 2010 We''ll see how long this thread lasts lol.So the big news splash today is that Middlesborough are interested in Hoolahan.Bearing in mind that this is local news media as opposed to national do you think that Archant has certain responsibilities regarding stories? Are they too quick to jump on any old rumour to just sensationalize it and sell papers? Should they really be looking closer at accuracy of their sources and make a judgement based on this rather than fuel the fires of rumour? One wonders if Hoolahan''s agent has anything to do with this lol. Syteanric 1 Posted January 11, 2010 i think its very newsworthy... it could be a rumour or it could have substance, but its the kind of realistic transfer that could happen and its important to keep tabs on such stories.

They are quoting "reports" when i haven''t seen any such reports anywhere else and there is nothing to back up the claims. They did the same before when they "linked" us with Lee Barnard but if you read the story there was no official link whatsover.Fans are nervous enough about possible sales without our local paper fanning the flames and getting everyone wound up in a vain attempt to sell some papers. I bet you anything there are billboards around Norwich today with some sensationalist headline about Hoolahan to Boro.

Enough people on here have moaned if they think Archant are burying news stories because they are "in bed" with NCFC, so when they publish something people don''t like the sound of they are trouble makers. It''s very hard for one paper to be bias on both sides!During the January transfer window a whole range of transfer rumour and speculation stories would be published, it is to be expected. What if Archant hadn''t run the pieces about Whitbread and Johnson when the transfers weren''t confirmed, we would of all moaned that they know nothing or aren''t giving us the facts. We can''t and shouldn''t expect the Pink''Un and EDP to run only news stories that will promote the club or cover up anything that is note worthy. Also, do you really expect a manager of a football club to make a bid for a player because of a news story in the local media? The agents are out there making sure that anyone who might be interested is being kept up to date.
Murphy and the Bricks 0 Posted January 11, 2010 With Mr Phillips on the NCFC board I would have thought Archant have to tread quite carefully with rumours. Like BYG says damned if they do & damed if they don''t. I think they have just about the right balance now. not so long ago they were very pro NCFC & wouldnt print anything that showed the club in abad light but these days it seems to be a bit more open & honest reporting IMO. Woman in the Stands (WITS) 0 Posted January 11, 2010 It could well be Hoolahan''s agent. Remember Hucks'' agent kept fuelling the fire even though Hucks had made it quite clear he wanted to come here but his agent had other ideas that involved lots of £ signs. GemmaNorwich 0 Posted January 11, 2010 Why would Hoolahan join a team who Norwich will be playing next season?

norfolk royal 15 Posted January 11, 2010 The point of this is that the Hoolahan to Middlesborough rumours first surfaced in the national press at the beginning of December. The Archant story is a rehash of that and takes it no further.
