Odd, do we have adaquate cover there?
Good point Wiz. Does this mean Spillane is ready to play again?

Really can''t say I''m surprised or particuarly sorry.  He had his strengths and his flaws but never looked like someone who had played for Liverpool nor even the best right back in League One whenever that was.

Fact is there was no longer a role for him even as a sub.  Who needs a specialist right back on the bench when Spillane can cover a number of positions?

I bear him no ill will and wish him well.  I am surprised that Southampton think he is good enough but then three City managers did.

Bit of a hsame as i always felt there was a really good player lurking in there somewhere but i''ve lost count of the number of times I thought he had turned it around only to go out and cost us 2 goals in the next game through day dreaming and general dosiness. With Spillane back and Martin there now is the right decision to let him move on as I don''t think lambert (or the fans) will ever trust him!
Odd, do we have adaquate cover there?
Michael Spillane, Russell Martin, and George Francombe, all FAR more capable right backs than Jon Otsemobor, and more than enough cover for the rest of the season.

I don''t remember Lambert ever criticising him, so there was no clue that he was likely to go. Still, Lambert never criticises anyone publicly, which makes a change from some of our recent managers!

Cambridge Canary: "but never looked like someone who had played for Liverpool"

He did. That was most of the problem, too mediocre!

Good luck to ya Semmy, think that somewhere in there is a good player, Norwich just wasn''t the club for you.

Probably a shame that the lasting memory of his time at FCR would be the inept performance against Reading last season, BTW hope the local press in Southampton don''t want an interview.

Always struck me as a right midfielder not a right back. Liked to get forward but didn''t like the return journey and left a yawning space down our right flank that often led to goals. Glad he''s gone.

I thought he had a good partnership with Crofty for a while.Personaly I think a lot of people are very harsh on him, he was the only defender with any real pace - in some ways it was good to have him in the team when playing against teams with a pacey striker or winger.Never as bad as a lot of people made out. Average Championship right back lets face it, maybe nothing special but also not useless either. A shame that he never really put any consistancy in because he could be a hell of a player.

Actually would just like to add its a bit of a shock that he has gone ahead of Cureton, Whalley and McVeigh . . . . .

Excellent news. Lambert is really starting to weed out the non-players in the squad. Theo and Curo next, hopefully!

Yes, he did have pace but only when going forward. He didn''t use his pace to get back and fill the void yawning behind him. I used to groan when I saw his name on the team sheet because IMO he really was more of a liability than the Doc and, indeed, when playing alongside the Doc he left the Doc to use his "pace" to cover for him whilst he wandered, often aimlessly up front. I will be interested to see what happens to him at Southampton.
