Doc not happy with utility tag

Recommended Posts

The Doc doesn''t want to be known as a utility player, well Doc I''ve seen you lumbering up front and you are certainly not a striker who could be called that name, playing you upfront is only through desperation.

However if you are to become a centre half try keeping your hands by your side not wrapped around opposing forwards or nudging the ball in the area.  Doc''s criticism at Tottenham was he gave away penalties and free kicks in vulnerable areas, well they were''nt wrong.

Jason Shackell come on down.

The Doc played well in the first couple of games up front, held it up well @ Man Utd and scored against Newcastle. It''s not surprising that he started to falter when we toyed with the diamond. He''s looking good at the back and will get better, @ 24 yrs old there''s plenty of time to improve.

If we are laying blame for the penalty on Saturday then some of it has to lay at Flems feet.  He completely mis-judged the flight of the ball and obscured Doc''s view of it.  Why is it that some players just get all the blame and other players can do no wrong?  Give the Doc a chance!  Iwan took a whole season to settle in.  Why are we in such a rush to throw certain players on the scrap heap without giving them a fair chance?!!!!!

Give ''The Doc'' a year or two working in training every day with Worthington, we''ll have ourselves a more than capable centre half (Provided we can find a PACEY partner who can organise for him...)

How quick and how much of a talker is Shackell?

Of course he''s a ultility player - in cricketing terms, he''s a bit like a bad all rounder - useless at everything

You''d think reading this board that he was a sub 10 second 100m runner. He''s not.But then he''s not as slow as Fleming. As for being a talker, no he isn''t but he is young. Rio Ferdinand was never a good talker til he got a fair bit of experience.

Please do remember that this guy is only 24 (despite the fact that he looks like he should be thinking of retirement) Compare this to the age of people like McVeigh (27?)

he still has time on his side to improve & has been playing in the Prem for years.

Agreed, the Doc can become a consistently good defender with Worthy''s tutoring. Pair him up with Shackell, who''s got the pace and raw ability, and we''ll have a really good central defensive pair. With the experience of Eddy and Charlton at full back, we will stand a fighting chance in this League.

Sorry but Doherty never will be a good player. He has no positional sense at all and has cost us several goals since reverting to center back already. He was a panic buy by worthington and I look forward to the day when he is dropped and Jason Shackell is given his chance at this level.

So Doherty has cost us ''several'' goals since playing at centre back has he?

What ''several'' goals would they be then?

Muppet.

Vs Fulham He lost Andy Cole. Had absolutley no clue where he was.

Vs Bolton It was a stupid penalty to give away

VS Chelsea He lost possession for their 2nd

He is not a good player, has no pace, no positional awareness and is damn clumsy.

There you go Campbell

Fulham game: Doherty held a good line with Fleming and the rest of the defence, and the goal could EASILY have been given offside...Doherty did the right thing in trying to hold his line. You could blame Fleming for allowing McBride to execute his cute touch. Sometimes the attacking play is just too good, which it was in this instance. Not many defenders could have done much more.

Verdict: Doherty not to blame for that one.

Bolton game: It was a soft penalty to concede, but again, you could just as easily blame Fleming for that because Doherty is expecting Fleming to head the ball back where it came from...standard defending which Fleming got WRONG.

Verdict: Fleming more so to blame for that one.

Chelsea game: Yes, Doherty gave the ball away...BUT, Robben still had to work to find Lampard, and Lampard still had to score from 25 yards! Yes, that''s a 25 yard strike. A little harsh to blame Doherty for the goal, it''s not like he''s handed it to him on a plate. Just like the ref last year for Mulryne''s goal against Reading. There was still a hell of a lot to do.

Verdict: Harsh to blame Doherty when it''s such a great goal, but he is to blame for that one.

Not quite the ''several'' you claim is it? Especially when you consider we''ve conceded 7 goals in the last 3 games...

There you go Rob Henry...I''m no Doherty supporter, I just want all of our players to receive a fair opportunity, and for me, 3 games in his best position isn''t enough to say for definite he is a ''bad player with no positional sense'' You fail to point out his great heading ability, his bravery and his wealth of experience in the Premiership. It''s clear you have written Doherty off already and show great bias when criticising him; you need to look at the overall picture. The guy is no Sol Campbell, but he has the potential to be a good defender for Norwich City.

Give the Doc a chance!
