As we approach the end of the year ...

Recommended Posts

it seems appropriate that we remember where we were at the start of the year and how we''ve changed (as a football club). This time last year (christmas ''08 obviously [;)]) unbeknown to us we were about to embark on a run of matches that would see Glenn Roeder lose his job. For me it all started going wrong at the Ipsw*** game (we won 3-0 if I remember correctly?). Last years derby was your typical coverup match imo. Yes we played well but we all knew deep down that it was just a one off match, we played well but derbies are always different matches to the norm.  What with Hucks going and G.R being ''rude'' to supporters at a supporters meeting.  His sacking was a case of ''if'' not ''when''.An FA cup replay match V Charlton that resulted in a one nil defeat finally saw the back of him.  His 65 match reign was over and there was partying in the streets of Norwich [<:o)] (well just the pinkun messageboard but still...).We were all hopeful that a manager would be bought in that could arrest the slide and turn us into a side capable of avoiding relegation. But no. Bryan Gunn and his band of merry men were deemed the appropriate *cough CHEAP cough* option and he was given a contract until the end of the season that culminated in the collapse at Charlton. At the end of that match questions remained:a) would Delia and MWJ be stupid enough to appoint Gunny again?b) how would we recover for our first match in the third division in over 50 years? Before we knew it, we had flown through pre season. Neil ''the clown'' Doncaster and Roger Mumbles had both left. The board had been scrapped and replaced with new blood- no shiny new investment but we had a new chief exec. with experience at other top football clubs. David McNally looked at first glance like the sort of bloke that would pull no punches, would it turn out like that?Soon we were anticipating the first match of the season- a home ''derby'' versus Colchester United. It wasnt quite the east anglian derby we''d have liked but we we were looking forward to it. It was certainly going to be a match that we would remember. A 1-7 mauling, a horror show from the Norwich back 5 (Michael Theoklitos was the worst performer) and 2 fans throwing season tickets at the Norwich bench gave David McNally the perfect excuse (for want of a better phrase) to sack Gunn. Managerless for the games V Exeter and Brentford we waited with caution to see just who McNally would pull out of the yellow and green hat.On the eve of the Brentford match it was finally announced that Paul Lambert would be our new manager. It all started well enough with a 5-2 thumping of Wycombe and to date Lambert has done very very well and has pushed us up to the heady heights of 3rd. Milwall on saturday will be his 21st match in charge, the same amount as the previous manager.Certainly a turbulent year but we finally seem to be recovering. A lot to be thankful for at this time of year.Merry christmas everyone. [8] PAUL LAMBERTS GREEN ARMY [8]Lets hope 2010 will be a lot better than the previous 7 years. OTBC
