It''s a perfectly good post. The lad scored for fun in League one yet is hardly a proven Championship striker.Sure he is more likely to end up at say a Coventry or a Derby of this world but you never know.We are situated close enough to his current home, are a far bigger club than Posh will ever be, will no doubt pay higher wages than his Posh contract and offer a real opportunity to make a name for himself. We are hardly talking about trying to sign the likes of Gutierrez from the Toon....If the board does have a little cash (offload semi/JC/Gill/OTJ), then i dont see why we cant have a go....not saying he will sign, but if you dont ask you dont get.

I''m sure we employ talented scouts who know far more about this than we do.And I doubt they think "Bugger me, I''m stumped as to who we should sign, hang on, I shall check the pinkun forums"And, without wanting to be a forum Nazi, I''m pretty sure theres a forum for transfer rumours.

wow, plenty of Christmas cheer here huh :SI often wonder if the club employ scouts at all given the rubbish they tend to buy.......I also wonder if we employ coaches since i havent witnessed anyone who can take a decent corner for a long long time...I would imagine of course that since this news was on bbc then of course the club already know. What i am merely suggesting is that its a good idea.We can all ponder the exact situation at our club and who will leave in january. This is a forum for football and this thread has far more place here than petty points scoring of most posters, or the absolute dross that is written on the live EDP updates.....for example/....600 fans at soton (guess by the guy from edp)Bob from caister (for example) "what great support City have, envy of the whole country...."Well firstly we probably have 600 living on the south coast!! Let alone all the capital canaries so 600 is pretty  crap. And given the thread about it being one of the worst away ends in one posters memory, such statements from people that arent even in the stadium are quite frankly useless. If you take the average subjects talked about down any pub nationwide, i would imagine tactics, managers, players (including ins and outs), rivals and atmosphere are probably the most talked about. Therefore exactly what we are discussing here. :

I did not know the EDP did live updates, you would have been much better off with the pinkun live updates.

I love how he constantly uses the word "pontification" as if it somehow makes him seem clever... like he''s swallowed a dictionary... or more closely: that he''s swallowed one small part of one small page of a pamphlet containing the word "pontification"...

If we were in the Championship then i think he would be a serious target. As it is i fear we could not afford him and he would be loath to drop a Division. On top of that scoring goals is not our problem at the moment it is still letting too many in and another Centre half either as first choice or cover must be a priority

your right going by some of the poor decisions norwich have made over transfers the last few seasons including being relegated twice in a few years they should listen to some fans thoughts on players .

i guess many would have quite rightly criticised roeder for some of clowns he brought in last season . mclean is a good player i would have him in the squad over kourma (or what ever his name is )any day of the week.

exactly....and the main point i was trying to put across is that this post is not necessarily about if Mclean would sign.  The discussion has far more scope to go off on various tangents. The question is not really about whether he will sign, we all know he will go to a playoff team in the Championship.  What we can discuss however is if or how he would fit into a Norwich side, whether we are better off looking for a new CB, whether PL can accomodate a 4-4-2 when needs be. So so many different football related discussion points.  And quite frankly i have wondered for the past decade if City actually employ scouts at all. I would more than happily scout for free out here in Central or South America for the club i love.  Players over the past few years seem to have been signed on their availability, wage demands and perhaps a video clip or two.  I would be very surprised if we have scouts regularly watching lower league games, European leagues or as i mentioned, other parts of the world. It doesnt take an expert to see a good player.  A scout''s job is surely to recommend players worth looking at.  After that it is up to the manager to see if he thinks they can fit into his plans or have the required quality.  I think this is a pretty fair point.  If you take for example the likes of Adkins as a manager, he was just a physio no? but he obviously has an eye for a player and can man manage (oh and a brain!). Most managers seem to get their jobs on the basis that they were good players (Ince,Barnes,Keane,Souness, the list is endless) yet most of the managing greats were not great players at all (Fergie,Wenger,Clough etc etc).  I would also use this anaolgy for a scout.  I can tell a good player when i see one, and what his faults are, yet i never played professionally.  Like i say, the final decision is always with the management team, but if you dont go out and look at possibles then you are left scratching around the bargain basement of L1 and L2.  There is no harm in expanding a scouting network. Hell there are enough of us worldwide that would quite happily go to three or four matches involving a possible player and film the whole game.  I realise of course that this would mean the management team get to watch a video!!! However, this could even be given t a chief scout who then decides for himself and then makes his own way out to watch said player.  With a fan base around the world like ours, there is no reason why this couldnt work.

Someone got out of the wrong side of the bed didn''t they.

The OP started a very valid football related thread.

You didn''t have to read it and you didn''t have to reply.

From your replies in this thread I assume you have never discussed or speculated possible new signings, whether there is any chance of them signing, where they would fit in etc etc?

You may have had a bad day or have a cr ap life or whatever but there is no need to take it out on other people, or are you just a nasty person?
