Delia Out! 0 Posted December 21, 2009 Go to Germany most years on holiday - wonderful country & fabulous hosts.Went to HERTHA BERLIN v HAMBURG last season. It was a midweek game & around 45,000 in the Olympic Stadium. Most fans were drinking from the numerous beer stand lining the roads to the Stadium. Beer freely available in & around the ground. Very few police & no sign of trouble - great atmosphere. The Bundesliga attracts massive gates at most games. I would love to do the DORTMUND/SCHALKE derby! Mister Chops 7 Posted December 21, 2009 The football is efficient, reliable and punctual, but has no sense of humour. If they''re playing Poland, best leave early. If they''re playing Israel, do something else.

Mister Chops 7 Posted December 21, 2009
alianz arean - worlds best [;)]
I think you should avoid coupling "aryan" and "world''s best" in the same sentence when people are digging up old racist jokes about Germany.
Nexus_Canary 1,016 Posted December 21, 2009 Might sound obvious but dont bother with stuff bellow the Bundeslegia, there is a lot of Hooliganism in Germany. I have German family around the Essen area which is close to Schalke and i know the Essen teams firm has a rep for being pretty brutal.Just remember a certain group of National Socialists and the fact they are still prevelent especially in some areas ie: Football holiganism. That said the Germans are a wonderfully accomodating and friendly bunch of people ! Go to a big match and you will have a great time !Important German to know =Eine Grosse Beir Bitte ( 1 Large Beer please )Curry Wurst und Frittes uber nicht Knoblar bitte ( Curry Sausage and Chips but No Garlic please)Amend to ( mit Knoblar ) if you want Garlic ;) and remove the but (uber)Curry Wurst is a must if you visit Germany its simply the bomb !!!Their Beer is also top drawer ! :) :)

pennywise 0 Posted December 21, 2009 i`m suprised germany kept that national anthem ..to me it just conjures up black and white images of panzers rolling across russia , stukas diving from the sky and victory parades in european citys by goose stepping jack booted german soldiers ... maybe i watch too much history channel [:)]
Nexus_Canary 1,016 Posted December 21, 2009 Well, my grandmother was German making me 1/4 German. There is a funny story about my uncle (half german) having a few beers with his cousins and deciding to show his love for Germany. So he decided to burst into Deutchland Uber Alas, lets just say very hastily he was rushed from the pub !! Karl Pilkington 0 Posted December 21, 2009 Thanks for all the tips we will be going to the Allianz arena but it will be 1860 Munich who play in the German second division that we will be watching. It''s much easier to get those tickets than for Bayern. There is no Deutchland Ãœber Alles. The first two stanzas of the Nazi-hijacked anthem were dropped because they were obviously seen as over aggressive and linked to Nazi policies.Anyway, although I''ve never been to a footy match in Germany, I have followed the exploits of Bayer Leverkusen for 6 years (due to a previous German girlfriend). They''re currently top of the Bundesliga and have only just moved to a larger stadium from their previous 22000 capicity ground. Their website (and many other Bundesliga clubs) is also available in English. The general rule in Germany seems to be: Everyone hates Bayern Munich there just as everyone hates Man U here. The REAL Munich is Munich 1860. Overall, I get the impression that all Germans hate Bavarians (as in Bayern) anyway!!One day I will go.

OTBC 0 Posted December 22, 2009 Hey Karl, I''m currently living in Munich. Which game are you thinking of going to? I went to the Ausberg game a couple of weeks ago. I arrived late, missed the goal and then the next 85 minutes were possibly the worst I''ve ever witnessed. Still fun though, the Canadian girl I took wasn''t overly impressed, however! Just a word of advice, get yourself a scarf when you get to Frotmanning (nearest u-bahn) for the terraces behind the goal you need to be a home fan to buy a ticket. Caught me out the first time I went. If you want any suggestions about things to see/do, drop me a pm.
