Strange stewarding at St Mary's

I was at the game yesterday - did anyone else notice that the Southampton stewards behaviour was a bit odd? For the first twenty minutes of the match they were constantly telling City fans to sit down even though the Saints fans opposite us were all being allowed to stand. This culminated in a group of City fans who had refused to comply being forcibly ejected, resulting in a bit of a scuffle. But after that the stewards just left us to our own devices and nobody else was told to sit down for the rest of the game. Very odd! It felt like the stewards just wanted to make a point and once they''d done that they couldn''t be bothered any more.

Was exactly the same a few years back in the FA cup. Stewards walking up and down asking people to sit down. As soon as they walked past everyone stood up again. Eventually they called the police.

They created problems out of nothing. They claimed people behind had been complaining to them that they couldn''t see but nobody had complained. They then kicked out 3 or 4 people who were not causeing any trouble (presumably to make an example of them) and caused tension where none had previously existed.

As you say the saints fans were left to stand the whole match and were throwing coins across the divide without sanction. Amazed it does not kick off there more often given the proximity between the two sets of fans and the attitude of the stewards.
