Advice on Millwall away with kids?

My Mrs has persuaded me to miss a home game in January, Hartlepool, to do relative visiting trip that fits in with her schedule. Before the keyboard warriors start making "under the thumb" jokes, I gave a swift counter attack insisting I attend an away game near that date instead. Millwall away fits in well. I normally go to the matches with my 12 year old son, but some friends have worried me a little about getting hassle at Millwall. Personally it doesn''t bother me, but I don''t want my son facing a bunch of yobs outside the football ground. Train is preferred but also considering going on the official coaches.  Any experiences or advice?

Just avoid colours outside the ground, Millwall fans have a reputation but as long as you don''t bring on the trouble yourself you''ll be ok

Go by coach Mr Ink, it should drop you right outside the turnstile!

However if you go by train, take the advice above and avoid colours! You should be ok as there''s not too much history (if any) between us and Millwall!

Mate, I would pick another game!!!

There is a gated walk way outside the ground which takes you to the station, says it all!!!

this is probably the only away match that I would class as a club canary "must". As previously stated there is a segregated away coach park right outside the away turstiles which will take you straight in and out of the stadium without the need to "interact" with any of the locals!.

I think Millwall more suffers from reputation than any real threat, you can wear colours travel on the train and you''d probably get no trouble what so ever. I don''t think there''s any hostility towards Norwich. But if you were from a club traveling down there and you were looking for trouble then I doubt you would have any problem in finding it.

all very well to say that now, but go to the new den and win with a last minute controversial penalty for instance, they would have no sympathy for whether you went there looking for trouble or not!

Went to the last away game (midweek) against Millwall when Dean Ashton was in the Worthy team a few years back (sadly got beat).

Not through choice my mates and I travelled on club cabbage (which after being held waiting for what seemed like an eternity in the ''Big Smoke'', for another cabbage coach to link up with us) we eventually got our police escort to the New Den....

Straight into a secure parked area, then into the dank, damp and cold ground constructed from breeze blocks, (chilly breeze) and a bit of mildew mortar.....It will be quite cold this time of year, wrap up, absolutely no threat if you go on Club Cabbage....

If you don''t want trouble and wish to travel under your own-steam....conceal your colours and there will be no problem.

in my own experience i''ve never had a problem at the New Den.

Personally, i find the midlands more hostile and Millwall have a strict membership scheme which means the yobs only crawl out of the woodwork for a streetfight when the opposition have a reputation for being ''up for it'' e.g. millwal, stoke, west ham, cardiff

i''m taking my 14 year old.

however, there''s no need to invite trouble so i would avoid wearing colours and keep your mouth shut outside the ground.

Don''t buy into this DON''T GO TO MILLWALL stuff it''s bollox. I''ve said it so many times on here now, unless you are from a big London club they don''t give a monkeys. If you go there looking for a fight you''ll get one,if you go to watch the football it''s no worse than any other ground. I''ve been to hundreds of games at both the old and new Dens and very rarely saw any problems(I used to work at Surrey Quays underground station). Their reputation is a lot worse than their bite. I will be meeting some old friends(Millwall fans) in one of the local boozers before the game and know I''ll have no problems.

Spot on.Don''t believe all you read in the press. Been to Millwall several times at both the old and new den with no bother. Yes Millwall have some nutters but Norwich won''t interest them, doubt they will even bother. You are more likely to get bother at Exeter, Brighton, Gillingham etc. As long as you are sensible and don''t go looking for trouble you will be fine. Go and enjoy and hopefully another 3 points.

Millwall is a good club, very hospitable and have done loads of work with their community. This should be an excellent day out. We''ll probably have a complete stand to ourselves behind the goal and hopefully will be on top of the league by then. I''d love to see at least two thousand of us there for the game, which the stadium deserves. Should be our best day out in London this season.
