Team for Swindon?

With Lappin and Holt''s bookings yesterday being a sign that Lambert will still rest players for the JPT, what are your predictions for the line up?

How many will he rest?, Is this side good enough to win?

Askow      Doherty   Nelson   Wiggins

        Smth        Tudur-Jones   Adeyemi

                         McVeigh

               McDonald   Cureton

Do we replay if its a draw or is it extra time and pens? If its the latter then perhaps thats the plan to rest players

I''d expect we will go with something likeRudd Drury, Doherty, Askou, WigginsDaley, Adeyemi, Hughes, McVeighMcDonald, MartinWhich

is basically the team put out in the JPT away to Gillingham [ up to

availability and McDonald for Cureton ] which I think is the most

comparable recent game.Looking at the JPT games, I notice - Lambert likes to:keep his Central defense together, but change the full backs.change the central midfield pair with a Russell/Hughes swap and a Smith/Adeyemi swap.Give different strikers a chance - Cureton/Holt became Maric/Martin first time, second time Holt/Martin became Cureton/MartinPlay 4-4-2 with two wingers and not play Hoolahan.I think the team I''ve suggested follows these leanings, imo.  The

positions I am least sure of are Martin (Maric?) and McDonald

(Cureton?)  I would expect to see some substitutions if winning with

Stephens, Tudur-Jones and another striker given some playing time. But then I thought that about the Paulton game...

Was I the only one having a little chuckle, watching the game?

Holt trying to get booked was brilliant but a little obvious.

Kick the ball away=ref''s warning;

Bit of a push=Yellow card,

Not missing an important league, game=Priceless.

Going to be a tricky decision for Lambert given the injuries, Lappin and Holt missing through suspension and from the home page lead story, he has to name six players who have made appearances to avoid being fined. Doesn''t leave many options really. So I''ll go for

Rudd, Askou, Doherty, Nelson, Russell,  Smith, Adeyemi, Tudur Jones, Hoolahan,Martin, MacDonald playing 3-4-3

Bench to include: Cureton, Daley, McVeigh, Forster

I think he will pick a pretty much full strength team - but introduce some 2/3 youngsters

            Rudd

Askou Nelson Dumic Wiggins

  Rusty Adeyemi OTJ

            Hoolahan

          Martin Cody

Here is a list of our players by appearances in all competitions (from soccerbase):  First column is starts, second is subs.

J Berthel Askou 18 0
G Holt 18 0
A Drury 17 0
S Lappin 15 2
W Hoolahan 14 1
G Doherty 13 0
K Smith 12 1
C Martin 10 5
M Spillane 10 1
D Russell 10 1
F Forster 10 0
J Otsemobor 9 1
S Hughes 7 5
M Nelson 6 2
S Whaley 6 0
B Alnwick 6 0
T Adeyemi 5 6
P McVeigh 5 4
L Daley 5 3
M Gill 5 1
J Cureton 4 3
C McDonald 3 12
O Tudur Jones 3 2
D Rudd 3 1
G Francomb 3 0
R Wiggins 1 1
G Maric 1 1
M Theoklitos 1 0
J Dawkin 0 1
D Stephens 0 1
D Kelly 0 0

From the article we are missing (in order): Holt, Drury, Lappin, Spillane, Otsemobor, Hughes, [Whaley, Alnwick],Gill, Francomb and Wiggins.I make that a team of:Rudd*Dumic* Doc Askou Habergham*Smith Tudur-Jones* RusselHoolahanMartin McDonald*Includes 6 of our top 7 available players.  Missing is Forster, next two most played available players are Nelson and Adeyemi who are 14th and 17th respectively, so are unlikely to count toward this quota.  * indicates a player not in the quota.

I think the back 5 picks itself (assuming Wiggins is fit enough), the midfield is less clear, but again for me the strikers pick themselves. I''m not sure why people are going for a midfield diamond when Hoolahan is not in the team. Surely McVeigh at the front of a diamond would be a waste of time? I anticipate a standard 4-4-2.

Rudd

Askou   Doc   Nelson   Wiggins

McVeigh   Adeyemi   OTJ   Dawkins

McDonald   Martin

I for one am hoping that we get knocked out of this humiliating and ridiculous competition. Bad enough that we have to play in it but we are now being told that we have to play 6 of our main players as a minimum at a time when we are struggling with injuries. Another 2 or 3 key players getting injured in meaningless games like this and we will be a mid-table side at best and I will be spitting feathers.
