ncfcstar 342 Posted October 14, 2009 I sometimes forget you don''t go to the games Wiz, but then posts like this remind me! [;)] You know I am not the biggest fan of the Doc, and have been one of his biggest critics, but fair play to the guy the performances he has put in over the past few weeks make him one of the first names on the teamsheet in my opinion. We would be worse off without him now, and I applaud his change in mind. Not many people think this, but I tell you what he is far better than Askou, who, in my opinion, is a bigger risk than the Doc ever was. paul ncfc 0 Posted October 14, 2009 Although I do not think that Doherty is the way forward for us , I share some of the concerns over Askou, I wish he would be able to develop the ability within his game to attack the ball more and not waiting for a bounce, hopefully this is something the coaches have identified and he will improve as he is still very early in his City career. nutty nigel 7,902 Posted October 14, 2009 Well now Wiz. You have a little count up on Canaries World, I think it comes to less than two fouls a game. And then have a look at the penalties conceded and the red and yellow cards while you''re there. Then maybe go to the Football League site and see how many fouls other clubs centre backs make. And finally consider if it''s better to commit a foul or concede a goal.[;)]Glad I''m not coming round yours for the footie[;)]

nutty nigel 7,902 Posted October 14, 2009 Oh and read the whole article about what Doc was doing when the interview took place. This was typical Doc and it''s a charity that''s so close to my heart and one he has supported in the past. I met Doc had Colney a couple of years ago but he had to rush off on a charity event. He''s a top guy as well as being a solid centre back. Of course this shouldn''t and doesn''t mean that he is immune to criticism but surely he doesn''t deserve to have so many things made up to criticise him for. Poor old Doc''s become a talisman of failure. He''s just so obviously there when things go wrong, looking bereft & clueless; you can see it going through his mind: "here we go again..." And the fans have cottoned on, as they always do.Not that he''s a quitter, he goes out there & takes it again. Doing his best, week in, week out. But knowing it''s inevitably all going to go mammaries up ...But he''s not a bad defender. With a decent partner alongside he can look more than competent - remember when Shacks came back last year? That went really well, until Drury got injured & Shackell had to go LB.So, like a lot of others, I still feel a touch nervous. But as the weeks go by, & the results keep coming, the butterflies are subsiding. He''s a decent, honest (too honest?) player. Let''s hope he can keep it going.Viva La Doc!! nutty nigel 7,902 Posted October 14, 2009 Blah.. you should really compare him with other defenders a lot of these are forwards. Players like Grant Holt foul a lot trying to gain an advantage. Iwan and Dion (when up top) were the same. Compare him with defenders like Kisnorbo at Leeds. Defenders who give away no free kicks would surely be more of a liability than those who use fouls as part of their armory.
Mister Chops 7 Posted October 14, 2009 The best comparison for dear old Doc would be Boxer in Animal Farm.“We sat down and he said I wasn''t really in his plans,” said Doherty, speaking at the launch of King''s Lynn''s annual Santa Run in aid of EastAnglia''s Children''s Hospices (EACH).EACH is a great charity and well done to Doc for getting involved and putting something back into the community. Cue the jokes about "is he pulling the sleigh?" etc etc., but Doc has never shied away from charity work and neither has he sought to use it to big himself up. I guess you skim-read my post so that you could get straight into your copy and paste, mind already made, vitriolic response, based on what - half a dozen games on Fox soccer Channel over 5 seasons, and the less thought out posts of some people in here ? Hope you enjoyed spewing forth your vitriol ! [:)]...
