aubrey rooney 0 Posted January 2, 2005 Forgive the history lesson and any mild inaccuracies but going back a couple of thousand years the Romans ruled an empire which spanned the world. Yet when they abused their privelage in England one region took up arms in retaliation. The Iceni, a tribe in EAST ANGLIA headed south, destroyed Colchester, London and St. Albans (pity there was no such place as Ipswich!) creating history in the process.When the Normans defeated Harold at Hastings, London surrendered without a fight and records show the only resistence they encountered was in the EAST ANGLIAN FENS by a small band led by Hereward the Wake.When Charles the first decided he was going to rule England without giving his subjucts the right to elect a Parliament and would enforce his rule with foreign armies a minor MP from EAST ANGLIA created a ''Model Army'' and created the world''s first democracy.When the experts predicted we''d have a tough season we could only agree. When, however, a hack from ''Fleet St'' accused the team and it''s followers of running back to the sticks lacking character it shows ignorance in abundance. To the ten men who fought so hard for 85 minutes, to the two thousand who sang in the rain doing their bit to preserve another precious point. I salute you.!!!!
