canary cherub 1 Posted October 2, 2009 Keegan took Newcastle to court for constructive dismissal. He argued that by signing a player Keegan didn''t want, they''d breached his contract (and therefore he was entitled to walk). He''s been awarded £2m.Very interesting case. Not sure it shows either side in a very good light. Wonder what the Toon fans think?
B-ru 0 Posted October 2, 2009 I tihnk there should be an OT in the title here....Anyway, making it relate to Norwich, there have been rumours flying about that Gunn had tog et rid of a few players. ie Russell, Hoolahan. If this were true, then surely Gunn would have a case. Not that I want him to of course [:)] as we would have to fork out more pennies. Also, have we agreed compensation with Col U yet? Can''t say I''ve seen anything on the matter being sorted out.

Constructive dismissal is when someone packs it in then claims that their employer made it impossible for them to continue. I''ve not heard of another case like it in football. Given Keegan''s past record of walking out I''d be amazed if Newcastle don''t appeal. The reason given is that the club signed a player against the manager''s wishes. Will be interesting to see if the floodgates open.
Mr_Chimp 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Ruling has been accepted by both parties, so chances of an appeal are extremely slim.It went in his favour after a string of broken promises, refusing to give him the final say on transfers and demanding he sign players based on YouTube videos ''as a favour'' to South American agents. As Keegan says: ''No one at the club had seen [Ignacio González] play and I was asked to sign him on the basis of some clips on You Tube. This is something that I was not prepared to be associated with in anyway. The club knew that I objected strongly to this transfer and wereaware that by continuing with it I was likely to feel that I had nooption but to resign. Notwithstanding this they nevertheless went on tosign the player at very substantial cost to the club.''It''s pretty damning stuff and highlights what an utter shambles Mike Ashley has made of running the Club.http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/oct/02/kevin-keegan-constructive-dismissal-newcastle
