The Hoolahan debate is applicable to so many City players

Recommended Posts

We saw the good things that Wes can do yesterday. The creativity he offers. The time he has on the ball. The performance was good and we get flooded with posts that he has to be a must on the team sheet and that anybody who thinks different is a fool. What we saw yesterday from Wes was a performance where he contributed to a high level but we have seen performances where he has been anonymous sometimes even a disaster. Position may have a lot o do with it. However I feel that there is a consistency factor in there to. That has been a problem for so many City players over the past few seasons. Russell, Lapppin, Semmy, all suffer from it, this season we have seen McVeigh go from a must start to wtf was he doing.I think we are so desperate for hero''s and so confused as to who are our best players that we jump on and off the bandwagons daily. I think that Lambert is installing a mentality in the team that encourages effort. By manipulating his selection, by leaving players like Wes out of squads completely, then bringing them back at the right time. Even by playing youngster in position where we have seasoned pro to play is creating a competitive team spirit and competition for places where before certain player in certain places were just pencilled in week after week regardless. We have a long way to go and so do some of our under performing players before they gain the hero status that is reserved for City’s greatest performs of days gone by. Wes included but we do at least finally seem to have the right hand on the rudder. Somebody able to bring more out of players and to act if they are not giving enough. Long may it last.OTBC

Aah but if the players we have showed their best talents with consistency then they would be plying their trade in prem/top champ and not in L1

We need to just accept our players have limitations and trust they graft when it is not going well...that is L1 guys. love it or hate it we will not get much more.

Seriously if Hooly played like that every week he would sell for BIG money come January

The last line is exactly the point the OP is trying to make.

Hoolahan was worth nothing Friday night, but one positive performance later and he''s worth millions!

We have to keep our feet on the ground, realise the position we find ourselves in and with the help of Lambert et al get out of it!

[/quote]We do have to keep our feet on the ground. We need to expect a lot and except as decent amount.
