SitTee 0 Posted September 3, 2009 CITY today confirmed the two supporters who ran on to the pitch and confronted staff during the game against Colchester United have been banned indefinitely from attending games at Carrow Road. Season ticket holders Mark and Daniel Warman ran on to the pitch during the first half and had to be physically restrained by Kit Manager Manny Fowler as they remonstrated with former Manager and Club legend Bryan Gunn in the technical area. There then followed further physical confrontations with Club safety stewards in the tunnel area as they were led away. href="http://adserver.adtech.de/adlink|3.0|512|1279603|0|170|ADTECH;loc=300;key=key1+key2+key3+key4+''+segQS+'';grp=[group]" target="_blank">src="http://adserver.adtech.de/adserv|3.0|512|1279603|0|170|ADTECH;loc=300;key=key1+key2+key3+key4+''+segQS+'';grp=[group]" border="0" width="300" height="250" alt="Click here"> The incident not only contravened national safety regulations but also hit Norwich City in the pocket. City Chief Executive David McNally commented: "As a result of this incident we were forced to pay for an independent safety inquiry and our policing bills have increased in subsequent home games. In real terms this incident alone has cost Norwich City Football Club a five-figure sum. "The recommendation of the independent safety inquiry is an indefinite ban for the supporters involved and that has now been put into place. It is totally unacceptable to run on to the pitch and physically confront members of staff. It is also clearly in contravention of Football League Ground Regulations. "We will not tolerate any behaviour which compromises the safety of our staff or our supporters at Carrow Road. Recent events at Upton Park have highlighted the very serious risk to public safety pitch invasions and unruly behaviour can pose. The game in general and Norwich City specifically must take a tough line on this and all related safety issues. "In addition, we have put into place some changes to safety procedures on matchdays as a result of the findings of the independent inquiry, which is still on-going." William Darby 0 Posted September 3, 2009 How they to enforce the ban if the two choose to attend in a few months time? What if they slipped in just before kick off? Are the club going to recruit a volunteer army of snitchers?
ncfcstar 291 Posted September 3, 2009 Good, I don''t condone what they did at all. I think we were all angry that day, but they went too far.

Wembley_Canary 0 Posted September 3, 2009 Harsh if you ask me, I don''t think they had any intentions of harming Gunn or anyone else for that matter, they were simply expressing their disgust to what was a shocking performance at Carrow Road. And yes they were wrong to do so and should therefore be punished, but lifelong bans? That''s ridiculas!

But Gunn needed the bullet and fast.
......and Smith must score. 1,343 Posted September 3, 2009 I''ve got some sympathy with the '' Touchline Two '' on this one.It does clearly state in the Ground Regulations that encroaching on the pitch is not allowed but this surely this case was extraordinary. There we were playing our first match back in the Third Division in almost 50 years and within 22 mins found ourselves 4-0 behind. Feelings were bound to run high.My first thoughts were that it would have been a good piece of PR had Carrow Road let them off with a warning, but, on reflection, I agree that they can''t really do what they did especially as there does seem to have been punches thrown at some stage in the proceedings. Perhaps the Club have boxed clever by describing the ban as " indefinite " which means they could be allowed back into the ground next week or possibly never. The length of ban isn''t defined so it''s up to the Club to decide when they''ve served their sentence.I would hope that the sentence isn''t too long.
