Smith and Adeyemi

Recommended Posts

"The introduction of fellow academy product and friend Tom Adeyemi against Wycombe Wanderers just after the hour-mark, marked the first time the pair had played together at senior level, but Smith was keen to stress any rivalry is friendly: "It''s not a competition, obviously we both want to play but we''re both young and have our careers ahead of us and we''re really close friends off the pitch as well so we both want to see each other do well. When he came on against Wycombe in centre midfield we both looked at each other and smiled it was a happy moment. We always said ''imagine one day us both playing in the first team together'' and it happened. It''s quality really."

I really admire the faith that Lambert has had in our youth players. Equally impressed that both Smith and Adeyemi have done nothing but shine and repaid Lambert''s faith in them. I can picture the two of them playing together in midfield in years to come as first choice... and what a midfield that will be. IMO

What are your guys (and the gals of course) thoughts? Can you see them forming a partnership in the next few years or is it more likely that Lambert will prefer one of the two and the other will fly the nest?

Sadly, if they do go on to fulfil their potential then I doubt it will be at Norwich City, I think we''ll bring them up and then sell them on.  Which, frankly, is the way of the world, but it is disappointing.  I think Adeyemi in particular could go on to be a million pound Premiership player.  He''s fast, strong and intelligent.  I would also hope that the central midfield first choice is Hughes and Adeyemi.

I really hope so! But I can see one of them, if not both, being poached by a bigger club and us getting a meagre bit of compensation.

Agreed, Lambert is totally correct in saying ''If there good enough then they''re old enough'' Perfectly correct IMO, just what Roeder needed to appreciate!

Was just wondering who people think is better, I only managed to get to the Sunderland game so cannot really comment?

It''s interesting that so much time has been taken to produce our enormous squad including 12 or so new signings this summer, when we already have all this quality in the club.  Perhaps if we''d have recruited fewer slightly higher quality players then alongside these quality youngsters we might have had a stronger all-round squad.

I can''t remember well, but above phrase was many of our previous managers had said, but none of them willing to throw the young players to the first team -- only Lambert did!

Norwich - I would have said Adeyemi was the more progressed of the two. Trouble is, Korey''s now come in and done so well. I think (probably just because of his size) I would still pick Adeyemi over Smith but I have to be perfectly honest, I''m more than happy with either of them being picked. How great is that? Two youth players and you''re more than happy with either being picked :)

Smith is a little terrier in there though that really seems to want it. It''s so hard to choose. I can see Smith starting today as he''s done so well in his last few appearances.

If they turn out to be good then we will probably only have them for a season or two depending on what division we are in. A lot of players never live up to their potential though

Just saw that long range chance Adeyemi had against Brentford in the tin pot trophy competition, that would have been a great goal. And you just know most of our supposedly experienced midfield players of recent years would not have had that kind of vision and would just have passed sideways. Hopefully this is going to be the next generation of great young players to come through at this club. In the second half of the 90''s we had sutton, bellamy, green, mills, eadie and o''neil. If this lot are as good as that, the good times will come surely....

It''s great to see some of the youth players making the first team, we''ve haven''t had anyone progress through the ranks for a while. If they''re sold I''m just glad we have McNally and we may get what they''re actually worth.
