Binky 0 Posted August 27, 2009 Not because they nearly held Burnley in the League Cup (Burnley fielded virtually an entirely different team from the one that beat Everton on Saturday) - but because they are not the strongest in the Division and it''s a long way north to travel if your heart isn''t in it. A result is essential - for the club''s season and for certain key players.Lambert should have a pretty good idea by now who his preferred team should be - even if Spillane and possibly Alnwick cause him, and our defence, real problems. I am not one of those who think "Askou did well against lowly Wycombe = good player, Doherty did poorly v Premiership Sunderland = bad player" - but I accept Doherty does not always inspire confidence. If, as I expect, he plays on Saturday, his team has to get a result whether he wears the captain''s armband or not and if he plays, he needs a good personal performance. Certainly Saturday is not the time for Holt and Lappin to have an off day.
Bury Yellow 2 Posted August 27, 2009 I get your drift Binky. Will be suporting the lads at Hartlepool and think the result will be a good marker for us although Lambert has hardly had time to sort things out.I am not a Doc fan at all but i think he will play. i just hope he has one of his odd games where he doesn''t cause panic in his own defence and actually has a good game. I also think that the captains armband should stay with Holt.It will be interesting to see how Lambert plays it in his first away game.OTBC

Had Team Gunn still been in charge I would be expecting a defeat and a poor showing, but expectations have already risen under Lambert. However, getting a performance in front of 23000 adoring fans at home in perfect conditions is one thing, grinding out something in front of a tiny crowd away from home is quite another. However, if we are to escape League One these are the games we must win.
Fife Canary 0 Posted August 27, 2009 Anyone travelling make sure you get a ticket in advance as it''s all ticket for Norwich. Away supporters get less then a 1000 allocation.

Mister Chops 7 Posted August 28, 2009 I don''t think there''s a case for making Doc captain again. Holt inspires and leads from the front (literally), Doc needs to be told what to do and who to pick up. He''s a follower, not a leader.

Nor can he effectively distribute the ball up field. but the comment about him being no leader, needing to be told what to do, that''s sort of a new angle on the old topic of how much and in how many ways he has sucked for so long.. Would like to see a midfielder as captain, so Hughes or WLY (went to a reserves game once and all you could hear was WLY barking out instructions, for someone so small, amazing how his voice carried)

My point is that the team have got to put in 100% tomorrow - and none more so than the Doc. The pressure is on because a defeat there would mean it''s going to be a long hard season. A draw and we would still be in limbo, and even a narrow win buys only a bit more breathing space. But a decisive win and I would think there is a real chance of the season coming good.
