Canaries chief executive David McNally said the board had unanimously agreed to appoint Lambert.

"We looked at the criteria that we agreed as a board and clearly he came to the top of the pile in terms of who we wanted to go after," he said.

"We wanted somebody who could motivate the players, galvanise the team, most importantly who could improve the players on the coaching pitch day-in, day-out and somebody with managerial experience in the lower leagues.

"His track record is very, very sound."

And he added that Lambert''s 7-1 win over Norwich on the first day of the season was not the reason for appointing him.

"In isolation the game isn''t really connected with what we''ve done," he said. "It was a bad day at the office for us, it was not a freak result it was a very poor performance and one that we all struggled to get over.

"But in isolation it was one game, we''ve taken the decision to change the manager based on seven months not one game."
To me that says McNally VERY quick to grasp how tactically inept Gunn was.
Just proves how totally inept the Stowmarket Clowns and the Chicken Farmer are at understanding FOOTBALL doesn''t it!! To think that there are STILL fans out there who just can''t see beyond the celebrity rubbish that accompanies Smith.

McNally clearly drove a hard bargain when having discussions about the Chief Exec. job. So much so that The Smiths have been effectively silenced on the Board and now have pretty much zero influence on the footballing side of things (thank God! But 11 years too late though). Lets face it there is absolutely zero chance of them WANTING to sack Gunn based on ....''the 7 months'' as they have been backing him all down the line! Unanimous? No chance! Smith had been sidelined and reluctantly went along with it. What else could she do?

Lambert is a potentially positive appointment but I shudder at the memory of what happened with his Celtic midfield mate when he was in charge at CR just two years ago!

Lambert is McNally''s man and unlike Grant has a pretty impressive manageriel record.

Only thing is he hasn''t stayed anywhere long enough to actually achieve anything properly, his wins to games ratio is impressive though.

FAO: Yellow Rider - who do you think appointed McNally you cretin?  To think that there are STILL fans out there who just can''t construct a coherent argument.

We must allow them some credit for finally realising that they cannot run the club on sentiment alone, and getting some ruthless businessmen WITH the required footballing experience in.
What complete crap that is. The only people who can''t see beyond the celebrity rubbish are people like you. They obviously brought in McNally and Bowkett so that they could take more of a back seat and put people in place who weren''t scared to make the big decisions but only someone who can''t see beyond the celebrity rubbish would fail to grasp that fact.
