Big Vince 423 Posted August 19, 2009 People seem to forget what a colossus Robert Chase was for Norwich City. The club finished fifth 86/87, fourth 88/89, third 92/93 in what is now the Premiership. Reached two FA Cup semis 89 & 92. Last 16 of UEFA Cup 93/94. Second Division title 85/86.And some supporters still think the Saxmundham Two have done a better job? They have only had one season in the top flight and have not reached a single cup quarter-final in 13 years! I can only assume that these supporters concur with the view that it is all about getting people into the big Carrow Cathedral to worship the celebrity of Delia Smith and has nothing to do with football whatsoever. And I thought buying a season ticket was about supporting a football team. Where did I go wrong? Obviously failed to buy into this delusional thinking. Community? Surely what the community wants is wins and trophies. According to the Club''s Articles of Association directors may not serve after 70 years of age. Saxmundham Two are 68. How much more damage can be done in 2 years? ref89 0 Posted August 19, 2009 What a load of old horlicks. Chase was in charge in a different era! Football is unrecognisable those days, and many would suggest Norwich were successful DESPITE him.
CambridgeCanary 0 Posted August 19, 2009 And where did Chase leave us? 16th in the Championship and on the verge of bankruptcy. We can disagree on who saved the Club but thanks to Chase it needed saving. The current owners have made plenty of mistakes but you are being dishonest. Chase took over a club that was wellestablished financially and in football terms. He left it a wreck. Delia and Michael took over a wreck and have had limited success with many failures. They are not comparable situations though.Criticise the failings of Delia and Michael but this is like comparing the economy in 1997 to the economy now. Meaningless bordering on fraudulent
Tangible Fixed Assets anyone? 0 Posted August 19, 2009
. Chase took over a club that was wellestablished financially
Wrong, the club was £2m in debt (if I remember correctly) when Chase took over.£2m was alot of money in those days. Mr Lister 0 Posted August 19, 2009 Whilst Chase was derided, justifiably so , for not investing in the team when it mattered to secure greater success, he was shrewd enough to buy up the land around Carrow Rd, This has been subsequentley sold off over a number of years to keep the club afloat. The problem lies with where this money was used. Lack of investment in the playing staff and seemingly always going for the cheap option as far as managers are concerned brings up certain similarities with the current regime!
