Canary Renaissance 5 Posted August 17, 2009 It seems that even the professionals(?) working for Archant are as much in the dark as we are.The only story (11.48) reported on the Pinkun website this morning is that Adkins has been linked with NCFC. This headline news is based on the fact that “Adkins'' name cropped up in the national media yesterday”- to quote from the article. Wow, thanks for that. Perhaps the only thing worth taking from this story is the debate about former goalkeepers making good or bad managers. If the tenuous mention of Adkins has any credence in terms of our future manager, do we want another former goalkeeper?
Graham Humphrey 13 Posted August 17, 2009 What does it matter if he was a goalkeeper?
blahblahblah 2 Posted August 17, 2009 Don''t see the relevance. Jose Mourinho never played football at any decent level. Does that make him a bad manager ?
Canary Renaissance 5 Posted August 17, 2009 I’m not sure if it does matter. On one side of the debate it can be said that there are few examples of goalkeepers making the grade as managers, not least because they probably see the game in a different way to outfield players (debate). On the other hand Mr Adkins could be the first example of an English manager to break the mould. It’s easy to list the few successful former keepers (Dino Zoff, Raymond Goethals), can anyone list the unsuccessful ones?
Metal Militia 0 Posted August 17, 2009 The best football that I have ever seen city play was whilst we had a former keeper in charge!
