Clean Sheets - Both Ways

Recommended Posts

OK so City have kept two clean sheets but the problem is that we have also got clean sheets at the other end of the pitch and it is woefully obvious that we are not going to get many goals this season.  Yesterday I managed to watch the game on Canal Plus at my local and I thought that it was a terrible performance by both sides who could not find the creativity to break down the other team therefore a draw always looked on the cards from about midway through the first half.  My worry is that other teams are going to suss out that we are a low scoring side and will say to themselves that if they come here with a very attacking minded side then it will be an easy three points.

My point I made the other day about us raising our game against the lesser teams was I believe proved yesterday.  A lot has been made out of our hard start to the season but I did not consider yesterdays game to be one of those hard matches (although they all are I know but you know what I mean).  We have now had Crystal Palace and Villa - two teams that we have the capability of beating at home and yet both games we have only managed a point.  And yet we go away to Newcastle and Spurs (games I did not think we would get anything from) and we raise our game and come away with a point.  I also stated that we are a very one player attacking force and if he is not up to standard or is marked well then our options up front are very limited.  This was again proved yesterday with Hux not having one of his best and consequently we never looked like scoring.  Something that Worthy must work on as we cannot rely on Hux alone to keep us up.

We must soon start to win games as single points alone will not keep us in this League and the nightmare scenario of us going down and the Ips--- coming up may well come true.  Hard work and team spirit will not alone keep us in this league but class will and I am sorry to say that although we have a few indivual players of class we do not have enough of them in the team to provide us with the necessary ability to stay up. We desperately need a creative midfield player who can control the game and provide the incisive passes needed to break through a defence and we also need a quality striker who can assist Hux but in the meantime give Leon a chance as he cannot do any worse than the Doc and even Svensson may give us a bit more now he has been left out for a while.

I know fans have said if we get relegated we will have the finances and squad to bounce back up but it will not be as easy as that and lets make a fight of it instead of looking back in 8 months time and saying if only.

Out of the next 32 games we need 36 points and that to only get to 40 which is by no means regarded as a secure safety buffer which is not beyond us but unless we start racking off the wins we could find ourselves adrift from the rest of the pack well before the end of season.
