chicken 0 Posted August 9, 2009 I am mighty confused.Essentially most people accepted upon relegation that it would not be easy and that people suggesting auto promotion may be a thinking a bit wishfully. Now - we get slammed 7-1 OUCH!People start to look to blame again. Any credit for players brought in and pre-season success was given to Butterworth and Crook rather than Gunn. The loss seems to be blamed on the chair people and the manager. I find it confusing.12 new players. The biggest question was how quickly was the team going to gel.For me people are barking up the wrong trees. Come Yeovil there are two choices - tinker and blow confidence or stick with it and try and allow the team to redeem itself. There are obvious issues with some of the team the biggest for me is Cureton on the bench. I would rather have Askou on there or infact pretty much anyone. You could have thrown Askou into centre mid and told him to break up play. What difference is Cureton going to make to a game that you are struggling in?Thats what you want from a bench - you dont just want ''cover'' you want players that could come on and change a game if they are needed. Cureton for me will never be a ''super sub''. There is not enough about his game to be one.I would put McVeigh in there instead simply because he can create. He is cover for striking and wing positions and can change games from the bench if needed. He can also hold the ball well.Adeyemi should possibly be given a start too. Swap Cody and Martin for Yeovil too.The last thing I think us fans as a whole need to do is get on the back of the team because I believe they are capable of a decent finish in this league - whether we have the right manager or club management is another thing altogether but the players need us. Romantic 0 Posted August 9, 2009 Good post this. I especially agree with everything you say about the bench. I find it amazing that we can be stunned like we were yesterday without warranting a change in formation or tactics and with 1 remaining unused sub. And with the impact of Cody I think Curo''s position on the bench is completely pointless.
StevoM 0 Posted August 9, 2009 I was writing something similar then gave up as this post summed up my thoughts better than I could have put into writing. Whilst it is still fresh in the minds of people they are going to swear and get angry but at the end of the day that loss was due more to lack of confidence and possibly nerves than lack of skill. O.T.B.C 1 Posted August 9, 2009 I was ashamed yesterday but laughing near the end, like most of us in my area of the Barclay were, but all of us, thought that we would still get promoted and the team will gel in the very near future. There is strength in the squad and just because one awful game, no sackable offence game doesn''t make all the players completley crap and releagtion certaintitys.Easy to say, but 2 good wins on Tuesday and Saturday will help everyone. You''re right Chicken about bring on Askou on to break play, I would have taken off Martin for him.Tuesday my team would be:Answick, Spillane, Askou, Stevo, Drury, Whaley, OTJ, Adeyemi, Hoolahoop, Holt and Cody Mc.Still think that the players I have in my team who played against Col U still have a lot to give us, as well as the dropped ones.I think that the team will still have the Doc in it come Tuesday. chicken 0 Posted August 9, 2009 Very good point Mr. Bump. But thats the choice now - do you stick with the same guys and give them a chance to impress again as it will be against a team we have to play again in the league or do you go with what may have been the original plan and put the second team out and let them stake a claim for the next league game. Its a hard one because really you want the same players out there to go and get it right and build their confidence back up. Rustys 1st Touch 0 Posted August 9, 2009 The problem is a lack of belief in Gunn being the right man for the job. Most fans would have given him the benefit of the doubt if we had lost narrowly but the margin is so wide that serious questions need to be asked.I agree the team needs time to settle in but there was 3 out of 4 defenders from last season and the same mistakes were being made time and again. For me the Yeovil game should be a chance to play the players who didn''t feature on Saturday. I''d go with: AlnwickSpillane Askou Stef (give him 60 mins) DruryMcVeigh Adeyemi Hughes Hoolahan Maric McDonald

Henry 0 Posted August 9, 2009 I think that if the results and performance dont improve, Wycombe could very well be Gunn''s final game in charge.
