Gunn must get results quickly

Recommended Posts

I don''t agree with the fans who want Gunn sacked after one game of the season.

However, I do think he needs to get results quickly. These are his players now, so there is no room for excuses. Either he can do the job or he can''t.

The next few games will tell us. I don''t want to see our chance of promotion ruined.

Agreed, we cannot afford to hang around as need to bounce back this season if possible.

I think he needs to win the next 3 in a row minimum.

I would give him a maximum of the next 4 games to prove he can turn things around. However my fear is that we bumble along for the next two or three months, winning a few and losing a few.

If we find ourselves in mid-table come October does this mean he''s failed and should go or would you persist with him for the sake of stability?

Duffman,

What I am saying is the board must act quickly. Obviously Gunn will be sacked eventually with bad results.

What I am saying is the decision must be made quickly. If he isn''t getting results don''t wait until November.

Yeah, if we wait till December to sack him, our promotion hopes could already have disappeared. That is exactly why, if we are going to sack him, do it straight away!!!

I still think we have the players to do alright in this league, need to see if we have the coaching staff to get the best out of them.

SAF always says it is easier to motivate a team after a poor result than a good one so let''s hope Gunny has been listening and can get the boys up for it tomorrow.  I think we need to start brightly against Yeovil and score early on to settle them down.

Give him until the end of August (another 5 games) to prove that he has turned it around.  Emphasis on ''turned it around'' and what that means is 5 games of consistent winning (I''d settle for 3 wins, a draw and a loss as an absolute minimum) and consistently good performances. However, unless the turn around is immediate (starting on Tuesday at Yeovil), then he may have to go even before that.  We cannot tolerate even one more performance like that.  If we get more garbage and another capitulation at Yeovil, then we cannot afford to wait even one more game.Sadly (for a great legend of the club), the evidence to date points to the fact that, under my proposal, Gunny will be gone sometime before the end of the month.
Scot,

The problem is can we trust this board to act that quickly. I''m afraid I doubt it.
Its a new board except 3 members so nobody has the answer to that question.  I think and I hope the key to BG''s future lies with David McNally.   I don''t know why but I really trust this guy to be the ruthless board member we have been seeking for years.

In answer to a couple of you:

I think this squad is one of the better ones in League One and at least good enough for the top six.

For that reason Gunn shouldn''t get a lot of time. Midtable is not acceptable.

I think Delia will give Gunn every opportunity to turn things around as long as he continues to tow the party line.

Not sure yet about McNally, think he seems pretty ruthless but not sure if he will be willing to go up against Delia on this just yet.

Im purely speculating but I dont think Delia is as power hungry as everyone makes out.    She is a fan as well and she will be able to see that it is not working.  I truly believe that if McNally approachs the board with the suggestion of releasing BG then she would not stand in the way.  If she did then I think David McNally would seriously consider his future.   He doesnt strike me as the type of guy who has turned up to let this football club plod along with its ''dream team of legends'' in charge and hope we just stay in business.
