Jonzey 0 Posted August 9, 2009 Bearing in mind we were second favourites for the league and one of the biggest clubs in it, and bearing in mind the optimism after a good pre season; has there ever been a more stunningly shocking result than yesterday? In any level of football?I''m don''t mean just big scorelines, but when did a team ever get a more unexpected thrashing than yesterday because my mind is drawing a blank? Norwich R Us 59 Posted August 9, 2009 I think you are right and so do a lot of the national media outlets, even the BBC claimed it to be one of the most shock opening day results ever.Being on the opening day of the season amplified it to yet another level of disaster. The whole bloody country had an eye on 08/08/2009 and how did Norwich City announce their arrival into the 3rd tier of english football for the first time in 50 years?Well, with their WORST HOME DEFEAT in a 107 year history of course.Bryan Gunn''s short managerial tenure = THE MOST EPIC FAIL OF OUR CLUBS ENTIRE HISTORY. Jonzey 0 Posted August 10, 2009 Valuble insight there CiB, cheers for that.I suppose the Olympic Stadium was up there in the shockingly unexpected scorelines, but still not a thrashing. How about Middlesborough absolutely dicking Man City on the last game of the season 8-1 a couple of years back? Out of the blue, although possibly Sven Goran Erickson sticking two fingers up to the new regime there before he left?!But come on, I need examples of horrendous unexpected thrashings! ? 20 Posted August 10, 2009 Weren''t we top of the Premier when we lost 7-1 or whatever it was away at Blackburn in 92?I know that was an away match, but in the position we were in that has to rank as a bigger shock than this one...
(Northern) Irish Canary 48 Posted August 10, 2009 Northern Ireland 1, England 0. Sorry, couldn''t resist......
jibbajabba 0 Posted August 10, 2009 This is a great result for Colchester''s record books - largest away league win.But as a Col u fan, I was talking to some other fans, and yes, we were all pinching ourselves at the scoreline, but if we''d come away as close winners the result would have been unremarkable and given that we won 14 times away from home last year certainly not a shock (to us at least).Long after this is just a dusty stat in a record book somewhere, people will still think of Colchester as the minnows that outplayed and humbled Revie''s mighty Leeds in ''71. ? 20 Posted August 10, 2009 Didn''t Brazil lose 6-1 to Bolivia a couple of months ago, too? With their first team as well, if i remember rightly...
pennywise 0 Posted August 10, 2009 arbroath 36-0 bon accord [:D]
Jonzey 0 Posted August 10, 2009 That''s more like it. Although apparently Bolivia play at very high altitude, as do a couple of the south american teams so they often win at home. But thrashing Brazil is still pretty hard!As for NI 1 - 0 England. Yes, probably an all time shocker!
Jonzey 0 Posted August 10, 2009
arbroath 36-0 bon accord [:D]
Interesting fact about that scoreline, on the same day in the same league and at a ground less than 50 miles away another team won 35-0. They thought they had the record.......until
