Jonzey 0 Posted August 9, 2009 Was yesterdays game a complete fluke, an anomolous result, a freak that happens every once in a while? Or is it a indicator that the club is well and truely buggered?I am still totally stunned that such optimism before the match can be so utterly reversed. Have we all been totally fooled again?!!And how much lower does the club have to sink before the crowds start to dip, it''s embarrasing. Any other club''s fans would have walked long ago, but not us!I don''t know who I''m angry at to be honest, the players, the management, the directors, the fans or myself? Why do I still invest my trust, time and money into our international joke of a club??Somebody please tell my why I don''t just give up on Norwich City FC! Salopian 1 Posted August 9, 2009 We had three of the back four from last year, plus a dubious goalkeeper. This fact may go a long way towards explaining what happened. Errors, including being out of position, were frequent. The two centre-backs were clearly too slow for a very quick mobile attack, but then most CBs are slow because they are big - Malky for example, although he seemed to compensate in some way. I don''t think that Dumic or Stevens are over-quick. Askou I do not know, but there must be a case for him to be included, and Spillane who does at least have the virtue of being young and mobile. I think that the defence showed signs of being wobbly against Palarse and Wigan, with the CBs short of pace and standing off fast moving attackers, and question marks against the goalkeeper. The midfield of T-J and Gill was clearly inadquate to disrupt a highly mobile attacking force who had done their homework. Martin is not a midfielder, Hooly who has licence to roam and Whaley are not much of a defensive force.I think that the above does explain much. The thing that bothers me, however, is why a team which had impressed many people more expert than I, and performed so well pre-season, frooze collectively. Was it a once off? The experts cannot surely all be wrong. Was it pace and better tactics which other teams will not be able to match?A few things stand out:The goalkeeper has to get his act together, or be replaced PDQ.Otse has to turn up and concentrate, or be replaced. One of the CBs has to be replaced by someone quicker, and strategies developed to cope with pace.Attack is the best form of defence. If we had offered more upfront, it would have taken some pressure off the defence. There are problems in all areas, and there are not many who might make a difference - Hughes, Maric, Askou, Alnwick, Wiggins. Yeovil may be an opportunity to sort things out a little.

Mason 47 1,924 Posted August 9, 2009 I believe it can actually help in a way... yes, I''m as bemused at this opening line as you.If anything, it''ll show the players that they cant just turn up and win. When it boils down, this is their profession and theyve been utterly embarassed when all the hype beforehand said they were potentially one of the best in the league. This could really put the wind up them for the rest of the season- that said, it could just cause them all to be nervous and afraid that it might happen again.I guess we have to hope theyre stronger than that. Docherty is commanding presence but needs to be partnered by a more mobile defender than the Frankenstein that is Nelson. The keeper should be given another chance, but will need to perform much much better. Gill didnt impress me too much either, he was too concerned with being a Fotheringham and knitting things together rather than gettin the ball forward into attacking areas.I was impressed with Holts effort and he looks a great headerer of the ball, he will score goals this season if he is given good crosses.Whoever is in the centre midfield need to have more bite in tehir tackles and show more passion, Tudor-jones gave a half assed effort alot of the time.Cody and Holt to start up front on tuesday.I still naively believe that we will have a good season, and that this really was a freak result. Jonzey 0 Posted August 10, 2009 If Saturday was a one off freak result, and Norwich miraculously pull a frigging massive rabbit out of a hat and win a few games, how will this result be viewed?:Just one of those things, subject material for late night comedy quiz shows, a huge kick up the arse, a massive space time anomoly?
