A role for Maric?

Recommended Posts

He''s with us only for one year, presumably as his choice and using us as a window towards better things. Is he to be used only when Holt is injured? This could be more often than we might suppose, given Gunn''s description of Holt''s injuries. How will he maintain match sharpness and fitness, and even his interest? A ten minute appearance at the end of a match will hardly do this. Since he seems to have many qualifications of a good striker, and seems strong, we ought to use him while he is with us.There is a problem of familiarity with striking partners. How about a measure of squad rotation, as we now have a larger squad? Liverpool used to practice and Benitez used to say that players returned with new zest after a brief lay-off.As Cody seems to be our quickest "play-off-a-big-man", perhaps he could be Holt''s usual partner, with their other pair being Maric and Martin. If Maric is not so mobile as Holt, than Martin playing left deep and Hooly just behind Maric, could supply the striker.(Perhaps, as some have suggested, Hughes and Holly could be rotational substitutes, and Wiggins/Drury, Whalley/Otse, etc.?

The last thing we need at the moment is rotation. It is obvious that we are still learning to play together as a team and last night suggested to me that we need a settled team for a few matches until we can get some momemtum.

At present there can only be one role for Maric, Supersub! There is no way on god''s earth that you cannot start with Cody and Holt after last night.  Had Cody been a little more composed/lucky in front of goal we could have had 7 or 8 and a hat-trick apiece for our front 2.  Maric is good enough to nick a few in the last 20 and certainly loves getting stuck in.  Just what we need.

I agree, rotation for the sake of rotation isn''t needed. A settled squad learning to play well together is the key.

Although it''s nice to have some decent back up options for a change, Holt and Mcdonald need to stay in while they''re working well together. The defence on the other hand.......

If a squad is winning and playing well together, don''t change it.

One of Rafa''s daft ideas, squad rotation, that''s why Liverpool haven''t won the league and will not all the time he changes the team.
