Otsemobor Right Wing???

Recommended Posts

Semmy''s wing play yesterday was superb, pace and creation. He outshone Simon Whaley, despite his winning goal. Were all aware of his defensive frailties, and perhaps he realises this himself. So why not play him as winger with a more solid Right Back behind him?The reason he doesnt attack as regular is because his job is to defend and he knows he''s not the worlds best defender so that may be holding him back? Without the defensive responsibilty of being RB, perhaps we could take the shackles off him and Gunn could say just go and attack, use your pace and dont worry if you lose the ball, just get back and help the RB.If Semmy''s in those positions more and more he will get more confident and effective. His crossing ability is very good, id say probably better than Croft last season and with his pace he is really wasted at right back. He can beat players, his step overs work more often than not, and being so quick he doesnt need much skill to beat his marker. It makes sense to convert Semmy to a right winger, he has a lot of attritbutes to play there, can beat players, is lightning quick, has a great shot on him and can cross a ball. His defensive ability has always been questioned so why not?

I think with whaley you could be shooting your self in the foot! As long as they over lap it should work well, Whaleys crossing was a concern. But the 2 together looked very good!

Perhaps they have struck up an understanding where they will cover each other and this has given Semi the freedom to venture forward. They both have enough pace to zoom up and down from attack to defence should they need to. I can''t imagine there will be many who will keep up with them!

Why, why, why do people keep persisting with this nonsense suggestion that we should play a player who is already fragile out of position.  Its a stupid idea.

Barclayman. Can I respectfully suggest you retire your sig? As glorious a moment as it is it always makes me feel a bit queasy.

Oh dear ..... there''s a lot more to being a winger than that.

You have to realise that usually full back''s runs are made from deep positions where the opposing full back is looking after the right winger. Attacking full backs are usually picked up by left sided midfielders who are not out and out defenders.

It''s like saying a defender who scores a goal from a corner with a good header should play at centre forward or a midfielder who hits one in from twenty five yards should be in attack.

There are many different aspects of the player''s attributes that have to be considered.

Good old Norfolk saying .... If it''s not broke don''t mend it. At last, perhaps, Semmy is showing what he can do and is building an understanding with Whaley ..... why change it?
