Worst fans you have experienced on away trips????

Recommended Posts

Charlton in the cup last season. Some group of chavs started calling us ''''A small team in London'''' and threatened to ''''Break our legs'''' we just kept quiet as they were following us all the way to the stadium like a bloody police escort. No probs in the end. I find you only really get trouble at games if you''re looking for it or unless their fans are real animals. SWFC fans always give you the finger and swear at you too. Birmingham fans are pathetic. They all talk big and last season the worst they did was send a kid to throw orange juice at our coach on the way back!

The funniest things about football fans that do things like that is they''re pansies if you were to see them one on one, it''s stupid.

Reading fans while they wern''t violent were absoloutly pathetic last season... to chant at us "you only sing when your winning" after we''d been singing all the way through the game until they''re 2nd goal and had never been in the lead once whilst they''d made no noise at all until they scored to me showed what a bunch of idiots they are.

I''ve had unpleasant experiences at Portsmouth. One evening match at Fratton Park, we were held back on the terraces until the home fans had cleared. For some reason they were letting them pass by between ourselves and the pitch. One guy in a wheelchair was swearing and even spat at us right in front of the stewards. When I shouted ''clamp the b******'' the stewards finally acted by coming over, acting all heavy handed on me and threatening to bring in the police. We also copped abuse all the way back to where we parked the car.

Small town club with a small club fanbase and mentality.
If Matty Svensson played for them then i was there that night and yes, it was very intimidating- i`m not sure i`ve ever seen a crowd with such a high percentage of 18-40 year old skinheads.  Ok outside the ground though.

Wolves have basically got themselves a reputation for picking on anyone who looks as though they won`t have a go back.  Had a few bad experiences with Sheff.Utd including about 8 youths picking on a lone City supporting black teenager (Yep, the obvious....[:@]) after a home game- and i`m proud to say a few of us, erm...put a stop to it....[;)]

This season alot of clubs will have an element which will only come out when Leeds/Charlton/Saints/local rivals and NCFC come to town so best stick together and keep your wits about you IMO.
Yeah he was playing. We gave him the usual Jimmy Saville chants and I think he had a bust-up with Eadie!? Might also have been the 1-1 game that others have mentioned on here

Mine was at Rotherham when we won 4-2 (I think?) a few seasons ago in a cup game. We were wearing our shirts and walking back to the train station and got threatened and some guy flashed some sort of weapon (which looked like some sort of metal ball on a chain thing) at us and told us to "never come back again".

I was too scared to say that I didn''t fancy going back to that dump in a hurry anyway.

I was there too.  In the bad old days the Rotherham firm had quite a reputation, and there were some ageing hooligans at the game who took our chant of "Let''s be ''avin you, come on!" as an invitation to a punch-up, quite funny really [:D]

worst set of fans with regards to supporting their team I think are Birmingham. Pathetic to think their average attendance last year was 18k when you consider they were near the top of the league all season. When I was there last season there was zero atmosphere apart from lots of booing when things weren''t going their way!

First ever away game - Leicester (1969) almost 40 years to the day.  Trapped before the match behind their ''end'' with about 100 Leicester fans at one end of the street and about 50 at the other - a bit tasty to say the least.

They chucked some sort of gas cannister in there then ran off.  The funny thing is i heard that the police had given them directions to the pub!

porstmouth. sept 97. 1-1 pompey were winning 1-0 til neil adams scored a pen in 94th minute!! absolute carnage outside their dump of a ground afterwards. our fans including kids being kicked and spat on.

other would be ipswich away 98. midweek game. kicked off between portaloo road and the station after the game. horse crap, bottles and bricks all being hurled at us.  people moan about the sunday noon kick off (when we are in the same league!!) but at least we dont have to go back home stinking of horse crap like previous years!!
Was at that game as well, was 10 at the time. I remember every Pompey fan thought Eadie had dived for the pen I can remember their keeper going mental at Eadie. Was so sweet when Adams tucked that penalty away, but even as a 10 year old boy I remember having abuse hurled at me by grown men and bottles being thrown at me and my dad.

Stoke away, the last game of the very first season in the old first division. At the final whistle there were gangs of quite young kids with 2 or 3 older ones to ''marshall'' them, gave lots of us a right good hiding in front of the local plod (who did nothing). Most of the ground had emptied, it was only when our coach got down the road we realised why. Loads of them had caught the train further down the road to sit in wait for the coaches and promptly bricked them (I think we had 2 windows put through on our coach).

Very enjoyable.

Grimsby is always hairy and I think the reason goes back to about 1967 when a fan of theirs threw a bottle at one of our players , who threw it back and hit a kid on the head - since then thwy hate us with a passion - went when we were champs in 1986 - what a day , trouble from Boston northwards , inside and outside ground and police escort all the way home - seen people glassed in suffolk , and had a brick thrown at us at white hart lane , Worst was Cov in about 1983 when they had to win to stay up , beat us 2 -1 and we hit the post in the last minute - no police escort back to coach , constant chatter and abuse / threats all the way back

I agree we have history with Grimsby. I nearly got a kicking there at the first away game I went to with my mates where we decided not to use Club canary. Akinbiyi got a last minute equaliser and lots of Norwich fans invaded the pitch. After the game we were walking along with a decent sized mob of Norwich fans who were basically taking the mick. Unfortunately though they all turned off to go to the station whilst we had to carry on towards the twon centre where we had parked. Within 30 seconds we were getting some grief.

Same with QPR and Palace in recent years which might explain a couple of the incidents referred to above although personally i''ve never had any hassle there other than being treated like cr*p by the police. Tends to be a bit tasty as QPR away is normally a game where our lads turn out so their lads are on the lookout for some action.

I tend to find that generally the games against the notorious hooligan clubs I experience very little trouble as generally I tend to keep it low key and also they are not particularly bothered about us as they consider themselves to have bigger fish to fry. The likes of QPR and Grimsby however we have had ongoing feud with since the 80''s as well as Palace more recently. I suspect next time we go to Leicester it won''t be very pleasant either!

quote user="Disco Dale''s Tash" - Crystal Palace for me, 4 seasons ago before the game we were in one of the locals when a brick came flying through the window with 30 or so Palace fans doing their over-hyped throat slit gesture.Luckily the Police rounded them up and we made the game with no probs!"

If that was on the main street up from the station, they were actually Norwich.
It wasn''t far from the station, but it was palace fans outside - might have been confronting the city away then.  Did you see a city fan do it?

A QPR pub friend mentioned that we tend to have a few rumbles with them.Any reason for this? To be honest i have always felt safe at Loftus.

Goes back to the 80''s I think. Firstly we stopped them winning the league one year and then i think there were a few incidents in pubs before and after games at CR and has built from there really. Guess the fact we have been in the same leagues for most of the time and probably have had 2 similar sized "firms" for most of that period also contributes to it. Its why when you go to loftus Road there are always stupid amounts of police around who have a tendancy to lock you in the pub and then escort you to the ground/tube station.

Couldn''t agree more. We actually travelled with some Blues from Norwich and had to walk through the Birmingham fans. They were fantastic before and after the match. I thought so anyway.

My worst experience away was probably Burnley the season after the playoffs. I''d always heard it wasn''t particularly nice to go to but thought "Why not I haven''t been there before, I''m not gonna let the fact that we beat em to the playoffs by one goal get in the way."

Haha, shame their fans didn''t feel the same way.
Had a hell of a time at Hull a few seasons ago. Thank goodness there was a metal fence in between us and them. [:S]
Was there a fence? On both occasions they scored all I could see was a large group of fans charging towards the away end with what looked like only a handful of stewards to stop them!

Chelsea were just plain cliched in the ''Zola goal'' cup match. Didn''t beat a hasty return to that stink hole in the prem season that''s for sure.

Stoke kids are funny.

Reading is sssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh quiet.

I didn''t like that narrow street we have to go down to get away from Gillingham''s ground. By the time we''re out and making our way to the station, Gillingham fans have inexplicably circled the stadium and surrounding houses and are coming the other way like zombies from a Romero film. Eerie! But having felt nervous about it there weren''t any incidents I can think of. I''m looking forward to standing on the terrace there again this season.
