nycanary 1 Posted September 25, 2004 It''s late in the 2nd half. We''re 3-0 down. Liverpool sound as if they are world-beaters today with Xabi Alonso putting on a show. This isn''t fun. We knew this would happen this season -- but you just hoped it wouldn''t until we at least got our first win.I''m glad Worthy had the changes at half-time but it sounds like we simply have no inventiveness on the field or the ability to keep possession. I''m almost glad I can''t watch it.Thank you to the fans who made the long trip up to Anfield and have suffered through this one.
Old Boy 0 Posted September 26, 2004 You''re right - it wasn''t a good experience, even without Roy. But it comes down to footballing quality, which we don''t have. Technically speaking, our best players (disregarding Greeno) are Hux and Bentley, both of them in the doldrums, then probably Safri, then Charlton. McVeigh fits in there somewhere, sometimes... But it''s never a match for a side like Liverpool with players like Alonso, Baros etc. What we do have is the work ethic, team spirit, fitness etc., but that''s not really good enough against sides that have all that, plus skill. And skill''s expensive I suppose, although I would have thought that specialised coaching in certain areas would improve our existing players.
