Just a pacey goalscorer/winger needed?

Recommended Posts

I think we are getting to far ahead of ourselves, I don''t think we will be signing anyone else, apart from maybe 1 or 2 Man Ure youngsters on loan.

So should i have said the Black lad from barnsley???
No. You should have said the black lad from BARNET. As that is where Albert Adomah, who you''re thinking of, is from.Yeah, the term "coloured" is pretty old fashioned. Most of my friends who happen to have different pigmentation to their skin prefer "black". You can''t say "half cast" either. Has to be "mixed race"....or ethnically diverse [;)]

Oh, I also get pretty darn annoyed when people say Norfolk is a backward place. It isn''t at all. Those people who think we''re some isolated backwater, with a penchant for incest, have obviously never been privy to our vibrant art scene. Nor have they bothered to investigate the strong independent/diy music scene which is full of forward thinking people. True, there are utter racists about and people who think you need a passport to leave our fine county, but this isn''t representative of the majority. Remember, we have a very well respected university too......And, we''ve got the second highest number of people with high speed broadband connections in the country, along with the highest number of atheists!!How''s that for forward thinking??!!

Adomah would be an awesome signing and a great investment, out of our reach though I reckon.

Yeh "coloured" is definately past it''s sell by date, if you called a black person "coloured" you might well get a slap! Black people think of themselves as black, not coloured, to call them coloured could be interprated badly, like you see them in an alien light so to speak. When infact may not/

OP was definately not being racist though. I often hear people say coloured, mostly the older generation, and they arent being racist, it''s just a modern thing that has changed.

Clearly no harm meant by using that term, but it is derogatory to label someone ''coloured'', probably not racist.  The term "coloured people" has a very distinct history to racialised language — one used to colour-code people as a tool of oppression.  So thats why many people deem it to be offensive and in some cases it has most definitely been used in a racist manner.  Not here there, so chill. At the end of the day, why shouldn''t you just say "that pacey striker from Walsall", you wouldn''t say "that white lad from wigan", would you?Theres my 2p''s worth

If you live in Norfolk, you just need to open your eyes. Guess it depends on what you like. I''d sooner live around these parts than one of the bigger, more "cosmopolitan" cities. More people, more idiots.

Well, yes TFA, as I''m originally from Snettisham which is where the gold torcs of Iceni origin were found and they had settlements all over Norfolk. However, nobody was talking about you being white...or pink...yet you responded to my message saying "Please don''t call me white". Ummm....I didn''t.Just seems like you''re trying to elicit some kind of response, which I guess is what has happened. Shame on me.Thing is, I was merely referring to "city til I die''s" post regarding Adomah. As he got himself in a bit of a twist. You''re also the poster that called me "ignorant" in a different thread...so you can see why I''d be slightly off with you. However, I believe all people are entitled to their opinion, which I think is where you and I differ. [:)]

"Rusty" does have certain connnotations of being slightly brown which could be taken as not altogether PC under the circumstances.I''m certainly not racist but I own up to being "prattist" and there''s plenty of them on here aren''t there?[:P]
Some people have dark skin without being pitch black. So black is not really an appropriate word to describe them. What word do you suggest people use? Coloured lets people know what you mean. Why is that word such a big issue? In what way is it at all derogatory or insulting or racist? I am certain you cannot come up with a strong argument as to why that word is not or should not be acceptable.
Black is not appropriate??  Black is 100% the right term. Black, White, Mixed Race, Chinese, Asian etc. Stick to these terms.

Its fine saying its just people being PC, but try using these in a conversation with black people, and you will find a large number will take offence.

And what a bunch of crap, the argument is, that if a group of people sharing an ethnicity find it offensive, don''t use it. Is that good enough for you?

black is indeed the right term, and using the word "coloured" which smacks of the bad old days in America is definitely deemed a derogatory descriptive word in this day and age. Just because you "dont believe it", "cant see what wrong with it" or " did not know", does not make it any the less unacceptable in many areas, especially amongst the black communties.
Completely agree, I''ve got plenty of BLACK friends, and if I called them ''coloured'' they would not be best happy.  CaptnCanary, you need to buck your ideas up, coloured means nothing, white is a ''colour''.  It has also been used in a derogatory way in the past, and hence has a stigma attached to it.  You''d take offence it a lot of black people called you Honky wouldn''t you?

I would doubt he knew what ''honky'' meant.

End of the day boys and girls ''coloured'' is a racist term whatever way you look at it....and it does give Norfolk an image that it is backwards. ''Coloured'' represents that you are not bothered what ethnicity the person is from because you are a racist bigot. However I''m sure the person who wrote it here didn''t think this.

The correct term on a public message board would be black, asain, mixed race, chinese etc as stated by the previous post.
