Do we Really havee seven players for CM?

Recommended Posts

Owain Tudor-Jones, Michael Nelson, Stephen Hughes, Darrel Russel, Matty Pattison, Simon Lappin, Michael Spillane. That is rather a lot of CMs, can we afford to have all of those, surley Russel must go, and one of Patty and Lappin (i know, the last three, will be in other positions mostly/as well).

Nelson is a CB, Spillane is more likely if he starts too be at right back, Russell looks like he is off already and you have forgotten Gill, Adeyemi and Smith.

And I don''t think it is too many, it is great we have competition for places.

Nelson and Spillane will play in defence first and foremost. Russell is leaving us and I would imagine Pattison and Lappin to play in wide positions when they do play.

Hughes, Gill, OTJ, Adayemi are the CM specialists, the rest can merely play there if things get desperate.

I can see OTJ & Hughes starting in midfield with Gill coming on for whichever isn''t pulling their weight. As previously mentioned, Nelson is a centre back, Russell is on his way out, Lappin and Pattison will probably be used on the left and Spillane at right back.

Whether we have TOO many is a matter of opinion, however I think Gunn has made the right decision in making them all contracted players. At least we won''t have to rely on the loan market to get in cover players who couldn''t give a damn about Norwich City. If a few midfield players are unlucky enough to get injuries we will have our own players as a back up which is something we really haven''t been graced with the ability to do in recent years, especially under a certain Mr Rat

Far better to have seven scrambling for 2 places than the 2 we''ve had up to now, surely? The biggest problem we''ve had in recent seasons has been insufficient competition for key places.

Allowing for a few injuries and the odd case of swine flu we may need all of them. Last season we criticised the manager for insufficient contracted options - are we now to start moaning about having too many? Some - like Russell and Pattison will be on old, higher wage contracts so may be sold if interest is there. But I''d be happy to keep both Pattison and Lappin if they stay in form - they are quite different types of player and both could have a role depending on the opposition.style of play.

No we don''t. Most that you mentioned aren''t even out-and-out centre mids. Tudor-Jones, Gill, Hughes, Adeyemi and Russell are the centre mids we have at the minute and hopefully Russell will leave. Its good to have others like Spillane who ''can'' play there if needed.
