linco88 0 Posted July 30, 2009 On reading Skysports news website i came across these comments buy are new centre half "There are no gaurantees I will get straight into the starting 11 but that''s the impression I got from the manager and the other players."If I thought I wouldn''t get a starting place I wouldn''t have chosen this club."I was interested to know peoples thoughts on this. I think is a good player but are these comments a little off? http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11709_5461688,00.html
Never Blue 0 Posted July 30, 2009 Seems fair enough to me, players working hard and pushing for a first team place can only be good.

Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted July 30, 2009 All it says is he isn''t guarenteed to start but is confident he''ll earn a starting place, just what any new player says
Joanna Grey 0 Posted July 30, 2009 He thinks he is good enough to go straight into the starting 11, seems like a good frame of mind to have.
When Saturday Comes 0 Posted July 30, 2009 See no problem with it at all -if he didn''t have the ambition and drive to be in our first team and play competitive games I wouldn''t want him. Those comments indicate he''s not just come here to play in the Reserves and pick up an easy wage.

LQ 0 Posted July 30, 2009 All senior squad players should see themselves as part of the starting 11. Whether their performances in training and in matches they do start causes the management team to come to the same conclusion is a different matter.Comments like those don''t bother me at all - if he said "I''ll try but there are no guarantees" I''d be more concerned. Players need to have that confidence, almost arrogance, about their own ability on the whole. It''s down to them to prove themselves.

Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted July 30, 2009 As ref89 says i think it''s just a bit of confusion relating to translation

Mason 47 2,024 Posted July 30, 2009 Anyone have any idea what number JBA will get? Currently having 8 and anything above 31 free (hopefully along with 20 eventually!) I would think he''d take 32 or 33 as I believe Hughes will get #8 and Mcveigh or Maric #

chicken 0 Posted July 30, 2009 There are a few bits of this that could be read different ways but from what I can see as others have said he saying the same things you would expect any player to say.No one player is guaranteed a starting place in the team, the management have informed all players of this and all the players are gunning for a place because of it.Askou is also confident that he can and will be chosen above other players. As other people have said, Nelson and Doherty are very similar style of players in that they are the Malky style ball winners Stefanovic and Askou are more ball playing defenders who can play the ball out of defence. If this is accurate then expect Askou to battle Stefanovic and Nelson to battle Doherty. It also leaves a couple of options open too. If you no the team you are playing are brutes you could throw in Nelson with Doherty and play them on the break with those two providing the harsher defending needed.
