im sure the 7 in the Mickey mouse cup were against League 2/1 opposition before they got knocked out, so looking at the overall record its probably more like 28 from 50 including 19 from open play. No need to put a dampner on a very good signing.
So are you saying we''ve landed a striker who can not only score goals in the League and Cups but can also win us plenty of penalties?   That''s fantastic!! Just the 11 League goals from Jamie Cureton last year and we''d have finished mid table.

5 were in one Mickey Mouse cup game v L2 Wycombe, and 1 in the FA Cup against Blythe Spartans where Shrewsbury lost 3-1.

Last season:

Grant Holt - 20 League Two goals (including 9 penalties)
Rickie Lambert - 29 League One goals (including 5 penalties)

Last season Chris Martin scored 11 League Two goals from open play - the same number as Grant Holt, except that Martin started 4 L2 games fewer than Holt did, and Martin played some of his games in midfield.

I think everybody apart from you realise we need another striker to play off grant holt as he more of a link up striker between midfield and upfront. plus he scores a fair few goals? Can also take a penalty

Some people are never happy.

I think we should have signed Dean Ashton back rather than this rubbish Forest reject....

He will play well with some of our quick youngsters and will form a good goal scoring partnership.

You''re obviously implying that we should have signed Lambert... well be our guest to donate near enough £1 million to Norwich to sign him? No? thought not.

I think Holt will do nicely for us this season, might even be able to sell him for a profit next summer!

750k for Lambert (which is not much more than Holt) amd 720k was made from the rebate scheme.
You dont think its a disgrace the fans had to buy Holt then ? all other football clubs have a transfer kitty and actually buy players that cost a fee as well as manage to pay said players wages without conning the upporters out of money . Agree with the OP Rickie Lambert would have been the smart buy , if Holts so well thought of just why did he join Shrewsbury from Forest for £170,000 , strange move for such a top class striker .

Do you actually believe that all other clubs have a transfer kitty? Surely you understand that only clubs that have money to burn (we do not have) have a kitty,
Rickie Lambert is not a target man, we needed somebody for the other players to play off.
Rickie Lambert is brilliant at that - it is the strongest part of his game - linking midfield and attack.
we could get Lambert for between £600 and £750k  we have the money from the sale of clingan(and some £££ from rusty when he goes)...to have Lambert and Holt up front next season WOW  best strike partnership in league 1 by a mile

All other clubs have money to sign players for fees.  Using sky sports news as a source (I did check for northwich confusion) I counted the disclosed and undisclosed fee signings by each club in league 1.  (There were no disclosed fees which made it easier!)Number of undisclosed fees: (names in brackets)0:Bristol RoversCarlisleExeterGillinghamLeedsLeyton OrientOldham AthleticSouthamptonSouthendStockport CountyTranmereWalsallWycombe Wanderers1:Brentford  (Weston)Charlton Athletic  (Soro)Colchester  (Thomas)Millwall  (Sullivan)MK Dons  (Easter)Swindon  (Cuthbert)Yeovil Town  (Williams)2:Brighton  (Dickinson, Tunnicliffe)3:Huddersfield  (Robinson, Peltier, Simpson)4:Norwich City  (Holt, Tudur Jones, Whaley, Wiggins)I make that over half of the league in which we will play next season yet to pay a fee of any kind for a player. Given that Tudur Jones and Wiggins are belived to have been very cheap and still qualify for the list, that is really quite a statistic.

I don''t know what you''re basing that on, he has little pace, lazy and doesn''t get stuck in like Holt does. Granted he is technically good and scored goals last season but his attitude is questionable and goes through periods without scoring because of this.

Are some people on here stupid? We''ve been relegated, income has dropped significantly and the playing budget MUST be reduced. Not all the money brought in from sales can be spent and you''re forgetting the players we''ve brought in will cost a fair bit over the next year in wages, signing on fees as well as the price agreed with their former club. A player on £3,000 a week and bonuses accounts for £150,000-£200,000 of the playing budget a year, the playing budget last year at £8m a year was 1 of the highest in the championship, i''m not privvy to how much it needs to be down to this year but it will be a lot, lot less.

We sign Lambert for £750k, add in say wages of £4,000 and we''re looking at over £1m of the budget before we even add in his signing on fee.

But 720k was raised from the rebate scheme to pay for Holt and we are reported in the media to be paying Hughes 7k per week so we probably could have afforded Lambert.

Where are you getting this 750k figure from? Simon cox who got the same amount of goals as Lambert went to West Brom for between 1.5 - 2 million so i doubt we''d get Lambert for 750k. 1 Million at least.

There''s always one isn''t there.  The lad''s played about 10 mins for us and you''re writing him off already.  Yes, of course there are better strikers around, but Holt has scored consistently wherever he''s been and I believe Gunny has done an excellent bit of business bringing him here.  I fully expect him to score around 20 goals this season.  All we need now is to get rid of Cureton (who was dire on Saturday missing his usual quota of sitters) as soon as possible and hopefully sign Maric.  Then, with Cody and Chris Martin (who impressed on Saturday though needs to sharpen up a little) and we''ll have a decent selection of strikers.  More than enough quality to worry any league 1 defence.
