PARDEW OR GUNN

Recommended Posts

Pardew. Wouldnt be as loyal as Gunn, but what stands for him is he can actually, and has been trained, and has experience, in being a bloody Manager!!

And wasn''t Roeder also "trained" as a manager?

Yes, which was why his record was more successful than Gunns. Would we have gone down with Roeder still in charge? Possibly not...

And how did he gain that experience? Everyone needs to start somewhere.

I don''t rate Pardew, i''ll stick by my Gunns (sorry, poor!)

Really interesting one this - Pardew had a fine reputation while at Reading and during his first year or two at West Ham, but since he has really struggled and most Charlton fans blame him for their demise. He spent silly money on the wrong players.

While I''m not the biggest fan of Gunn as manager, I''d still prefer to have him over Pardew.

How is Pardew a relegation specialist?  Only time he has seen a team relegated was Charlton and even then they were already bottom and heading down.

Did well at Reading and think he will do well at Saints.

Would still rather have Gunn though.

Pardew was an appointment from within the club at Reading when he became their Manager, suspect there were numerous Reading fans objecting to that appointment for the same reasons there is a lot of anti-Gunn sentiment here as regards his appointment as Manager?

But every Manager has to start somewhere, even the likes of Ferguson and Wenger had no experience at one time, but someone took a punt on them!

Personally, I don''t think Gunn was the right choice, but his tenure cannot be judged yet, no matter how last season ended. And it can''t be judged in September/October either, though, suspect it will have been-and Gunn found guilty-if we are not top two and flying by then?

We have all been swift to condemn his appointment and a lot of the signings thus far, saying it reflects the clubs lack of ambition. If it all goes well, we win the Championship and the signings are decent ones, will everyone have been wrong?

Like I said earlier, I wasn''t for Gunn''s appointment. But I will wait and see what happens and would love to be proved wrong!

Crumbs, I''d have Pardew here over Gunn in an instant.

Pardew has two to his name before his big role in last years. One relegation when you only had a few months hardly makes you a specialist like Pardew. I''d rather have Gunn than that particular mercenary

Southampton Flag of England 16 July 2009

Pardew has a very decent record at Reading, reasonable at West Ham.  You quote two relegations but fail to mention his successes, of course.

Gunn has only relegation on his CV and I fear that''s all he''s capable of delivering.
Two relegations for Pardew? What was the other one?
It''s one relegation for Pardew, surprise surprise.  With Charlton. And that season he also took over Charlton around Xmastime, the same reason given by Pro-Gunners for why Gunny isn''t to blame for taking us down as he didn''t have long enough to prove himself..."Pardew''s absence from management lasted less than two weeks when he was appointed manager of Charlton Athletic on Christmas Eve 2006, signing a three-and-a-half year contract.[13]

He took over with Charlton in 19th place in the Premier League, with

just 12 points and a –20 goal difference, the lowest in the league.

Although Charlton''s form improved under Pardew,[14] he was unable to keep Charlton up, resulting in the first relegation of his career, both as a player and manager."

Double standards?  On the Pink Un message board?  Well, I''ll be....

West Ham and Charlton. And how can you compare a relegation with a mess of a team and right down there with only a few months in charge? That''s just daft quite frankly. Pardew has done very little that I can think would possibly make you want him here. Gunn got relegated but that was in no small way to do with other managers and aspects, he hasn''t even had a season in charge yet.

Er, I never actually said that did I? Just wondering why you''re banging on about a non-existent relegation and conveniently forgetting two promotions too.
