Common Sense 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Just thought I would make my first post as little controversial as possible. I have a friend who works at Colney but unfortunately is being made redundant next month due to the cost cutting measures at the club so the news that I get from him (which up to now I have kept to myself) will come to a halt.Anyway although I am by no means a fan of the Board or more precisely how poorly it is run, I am always surprised at the costs in running a football club. For instance Dejan Stefanovic has recently had a scan at the N&N at a cost of £900, the price of two season tickets. However those of you that are still angry at the way some of the players "just gave up" at the end of last season can take solace in that they now have to pay for their meals at Colney. It will take a few meals to pay for Dejan''s scan !Told you it would not be a controversial post !

William Darby 0 Posted July 13, 2009 To be fair, taking the figure of £900 for a scan as a matter of fact. A few of those over the course of a season would certainly add up.
Mister Chops 7 Posted July 13, 2009 What''s on the menu at Colney, can you find out what our finest athletes have on their daily menus? As a long distance runer, I''m curious.

Desert Fox 0 Posted July 13, 2009 Whilst it is clear to virtually everyone that we need to radically reduce costs, I am not sure that it would be very smart to cut back on basic medical costs which will tell us when or if a player is fit to return. This is likley to be a pre-condition of any insurance or legal issues in the event that the player does not see out their contract. As for the £900, this will be the private patient rate. of which circa half will go to the hospital and half to the consultant in their private capacity. I am not sure that we should expect the NHS to subsidise the running costs of the club given their currrent predicament.
William Darby 0 Posted July 13, 2009
Im pretty sure all the players use BUPA....
BUPA is the health care cover, if you want to pay (opt out of NHS) you can get the treatment straight away. For example, if you had a lump on your goolies, you visit your GP they fix you up for a hospital visit in a week or two. You pay yourself, they sort you out tomorrow. Basically the club does that. Gingerpele 0 Posted July 14, 2009 I went to Colney a few years back, and one of the those study center things, and i thought it was really good, the facilities are great, but if the player''s are paying for there meals, the club arn''t gaining any money i presume, there just giving less to the players...... Houston Canary 0 Posted July 14, 2009 HAH! Good one, still hjolding out. [:D]I''ve had previous debates on these threads about NHS and I am wondering where its defenders are this time. I see similar comments being made about it, and yet no one challenges them with retorts about how awful Americans are. Hmmmmm, curious. Why should rich athletes get to jump the line for medical services? Whaaaaaaa. We should all have to wait weeks for basic services, even though there is not wait for them in American hospitals, that''s all I''m saying. I think all those UN surveys would disagree with me. Westernized socialism really does rule, right!?

No-one in this thread has made a comparison with the healthcare of anywhere else, America or otherwise. However, if I wanted this thread to last for several years, I''d probably ask you for your opinions on this - a US healthcare admitting that there was a secret smear campaign against Michael Moores as a result of his film "Sicko", which attempts to show US healthcare in the poor light it deserves.* lights blue touch paper and retires... *
