Fantastic pictures, well done to all involved!  Some details of the project and its outcomes would be a good read! [Y]

Basically the NGO I was visiting is a new charity working with Street Children in Northern Sierra Leone. The majority of kids that are on the programme lost their parents in the war and a few were ex RUF boy soldiers. So the main aim of the project is to get these kids off the street and into safety. But the most rewarding part is giving the children the opportunity to be children without them having to worry about defending themselves out on the street. In the centre they get 3 meals a day and get the opportunity to learn new skills and play games.

The majority of the photos above are of a football tournament I organised between 3 local secondary schools and our centre. It was amazing. One school turned up in Juventus jerseys and the other two schools turned up on Guinea shirts. (this was a little confusing when they played each other in the 3rd-4th play off) and obviously we were in the NCFC shirts.

In a very close semi  which ended 1-1 we beat one of the ‘Guinea’ schools on a penalty shootout, it was as nervous as watching Daryl Such step up against Birmingham back in Cardiff. These boys did not want to lose. So in the final we ended up playing ‘Juventus’ , sadly we couldn’t keep up our good performance of our first match and we lost 3-1.

I had no idea how big this tournament was going to be. Most of the town turned up to watch and it got quite heated at times. The prizes were very simple books, pen and other stationary items and a cup for the winning team, but honestly you would have thought they were playing for the world cup, I was amazed with the passion and desire they have for football.

If you want to find out more about the charity do visit www.street-child.co.uk or PM me.

Well done, that''s a great cause.

I see we can donate money online, is there anywhere we can donate other stuff (e.g. shirts?)
