Sort of very OT - but not quite?

Recommended Posts

If any of you have ventured away from your laptops tonight you may have noticed a particularly wonderful moon. Low on the southern horizon, beautiful and glowing in its coldness...Seeing as you''re still up at 11.20, perhaps you''ll be awake at midnight. If you are tune in to BBC4 "Me and Neil Armstrong" - a documentary by Andrew Smith (a Norwich City fan, that''s the ''almost OT'' part), author of one of my fave books of all time, Moon Dust. There''s that line from the first man on the moon, something about did he feel big when he held up his thumb and blocked out the Earth. "No," he said "I felt very, very small."There''s a whole universe out there. Lucky we''re a part of it.

Kinda related - does anyone remember that late night sports prog "Shoot For the Moon"..??? It was sometimes presented by the bloke who played the boyfriend of "Glenn Ponder" (in Alan Partridge)... and AP has Norwich connections... Its all a tangled web...

Sadly for us we only get to see it through a telescope...

I''m not being hypnotised I tell ya! I was probably drunk, wandered into that field, lost all my clothes and fell awkwardly onto that anal probe....

... but if you ever want to know the quick way to Ceti Alpha V?

I''m so annoyed, I just typed a long response to this detailing my

passion for space as a kid, reignited now by the anniversary of the

Moon landings... needless to say, I''m a space geek and I love it, so

have been watching these BBC programs (though mostly on iPlayer so

didn''t see it last night...)

I would have thought you''d be more into Space Greeks, LQ.... [;)][:P]

Avatar duly changed, though...

Incidentally, after catching the end of For All Mankind last night

(which I''m now downloading on iPlayer) I remembered how wonderful the

music is and downloaded An Ending (Ascent) by Brian Eno, which plays

out the credits... its atmospheric, haunting and lovely, and predates

the likes of Sigur Ros and Album Leaf by some 20 years or so.... check it out!

It''s a long (and completely irrelevant) story that I won''t bore everyone with*.Feeling a bit happier with the new avatar though [;)]

*cue comments along the lines of "that doesn''t usually stop you..." etc.

Prefer Eno for his production work mostly, but the songs from the

Apollo program are pretty good.... I won''t ask why you dislike him, I

probably won''t want to know... [;)]

Back on topic, does anyone know if there''s any special programming on

the night of the anniversary going into 04.15am or whatever time it

will fall here? Seems like a good excuse to stay up with a bottle of

red to me![:D]

I remember the first moon landing very clearly.  It was a lovely summer Saturday night and me and my bloke had gone sea fishing at Waxham.  I don''t think we''d realised it was about to happen, but sitting on the beach with a transistor radio, a flask of coffee and a packet of custard creams, we listened to the commentary and looked up at the moon as it actually took place - unforgettable.

Are you kidding? I had this book in my hand about a year ago ready to

buy, but then decided I couldn''t justify the expense (I know its not

much, but I''m a student and it was a book or food...)! I''m also pretty

sure Andrew Smith has contributed to a weekly popular science journal??

If this is indeed you.... I want your life!!! [:$]
