Football League iPhone App.....

Recommended Posts

Hello,

As an avid reader of this message board for longer than I care to

remember and a season ticket holder exiled in London - I would value some opinions on some work related research.I was wondering if any of you can help me by letting me know what features you would like to see in an I phone app for the Football League. Any and all opinions welcome - thanks very much

I got my first iPhone on friday and one of the first apps I got was iFooty.   Not sure if iFooty has it but a live league table would be a cool feature to have.

I got mine on Friday too and was surprised there wasn''t a decent FL app.

Good luck with it and let us know when it''s live.

Besides the obvious name trademarks, crest trademarks etc. it would cost you an arm and a leg just to reproduce fixtures and I think the league tables are copyrighted too so you would not be able to show either whats going to happen or what has happened without paying the FL a substantial copyright fee. Individual clubs might have individual arrangements as to what you can and can''t use and then there are the copyrighted players themselves. EG. did you know that Newcastle pay Joey Barton £650,000 per annum for his image rights (which obviously went up when he got himself into bother). It''s a legal minefield mate and I wish you luck but it could cost you a fortune to licence some of the more important parts of any FL application for publication in any format so don''t imagine you''ll be able to make it as a free app.

PS meant to add FL Interactive of which our late CE and current club secretary Neil Doncaster is a Director have hoovered up the online rights to most football clubs in the country. You''d need to be very careful that any app you make doesn''t infringe on this companys copyrights and that includes (I think) certain methods of ''goal alerts'' .

I''m guessing the fact that the poster says "We did the ECB App which was a free app" means they are aware of the legalities - I guess it''s a company that specialises in these sort of things?

I''d like to see all/some of the suggestions above and would pay (up to 59p) for it, if the reviews were good.

(To be used, ideally, as you walk away from the ground, desperate for other results, up to date tables etc)

As an aside, the current Wimbledon one is excellent (and free).

"As an aside, the current Wimbledon one is excellent (and free)"

Wimbledon as in "lawn tennis", rather than "AFC", which would have a very limited appeal!

I certainly would not pay for a football league app, considering I could just log on to BBC or SkySports, but I would try it out if free. Live scores would be a nice feature to have.

Yes we are and would be building the app for the FL. Personally I was wondering what other football fans thought of it and what they would expect from it. As a season ticket holder who does a lot of travelling I would also find it most useful after the games, checking other results and watching us rise up the table!!

Much more fun to listen to it uninterrupted on the little old radio.

I mean you''d miss good old Canary Call!

Hi Lil,Ideally I (like most other fans I assume) would be looking for something that I could centre on my club.If you''re working on this with the football league perhaps you could look at a tie-in with local radio for post match reactions. Obviously the FL already have commentary dealt with via Perform but if you were angling towards fans AT games a link button for example on the NCFC page that allowed you to tune in to Canary Call easily whilst browsing the main NCFC biased pages would be useful.I miss Neil*.Hello Neil?[;)]*Adams, obviously!!
