Middlsborough and Newcastle given byes to second round of carling cup

Recommended Posts

A bit off topic but has anyone else seen newcastle and middlsborough are getting a bye from the first round of the carling cup and go straight through to the second round. Something with how many teams we have playing in europe next season. But still once again seems like the big boys get different rules to all the other teams in the league. Of course the league cant let newcastle play accrington stanley or someone like that as they are to "big" of a club

Possibly.  Should be 16 byes for the first round in a 48 team competition.

If west brom would have come 22nd or 23rd they would have got a bye

from what i remember usually two championship sides who go down get a bye in any case - or they used to do in anycase

and what do you mean newcastle v accrington? isn''t that the whole reason why the first two rounds are seeded - to ensure a small team gets play least one bigger team

We may not come close to winning it, but as clubs like Burnley have proven, a good cup run is good way of generating revenue to strengthen the squad.
