Danny Webber released by Sheff Utd

Recommended Posts

Not a chance he would come to us,and lets be honest Gunn won''t even look at him he will want more than £250 a week because from the sounds of it thats what most of our youth team will be on when they kick of in league 1 next season. Good call but just not a chance of signing him!!

Why not?
He''s too good for league 1
Which underlines why he is exactly the type of player we should be looking at? Someone who can help us challenge?

Spot on.  If we dont offer him a deal then somebody like Leeds will.

He would be a great great player for us but i have to agree with most that i dont think he''ll come. His wages would be too much and championship clubs will be after him. shame!

The point is that if you dont ask you dont get. We could offer 10 contracts to players like Danny Webber and might get 9 people say get lost and 1 say yes.

We could offer 0 contracts to people like Danny Webber and we certainly couldnt get 1 say yes then could we?

Carlise signed Ian Harte. We could sign an Ian Harte. Simple as.

Exactly what I am trying to say Ryan! Surely we should be at least asking players like this to come and have a look around and a chat? If we offer him a contract and he says no then we can always walk away.

You would imagine that most players would speak to several clubs and see where they think they can earn the money they want and play for a team that they believe will do well.

He probably will, but we have to be loud and proud and have a go. Thats my point, if you dont ask you dont get. Huckerby could have gone to Premiership clubs or sat in Man City reserves earning twice as much as he did at City, he is a rarity, but there are other Huckerbys out there.

If we are not going to look in the championship for players then we arent going to get back to the championship. We need to be aggressive in the transfer market.

Even if we have to offer 50 contracts to people above League One standard to get 1 then its worth the time. We should be faxing a generic contract offer to every good free agent on the market. If any call back then thats a bonus.

Its like tele-marketing, you phone 100 people looking for a lead and 99 will tell you to F off. That other 1 might be interested and you can go home having earnt your wages. Butterworth, Gunn, Crook should be working their way DOWN the list from Very Good to Pretty Good and people like Webber should be near the top.

He is not too good for the Champ, he has scored a small amount of goals in a lot of games. He has always flattered to decieve. Maybe a stint lower down where he can score a hatful and then if we are promoted he can have all the confidence. But, it won''t happen. He will stay in the champ.

If we gave him a call, like you said, he probably wouldnt be interested. But if there is even a 1 in 20 chance that he might come then a 10 minute conversation with his agent is worth the clubs time.

Start from the top players and work down. People slated the possible signing of Micky Nelson, a league one player, yet say that we have no chance with Championship players.

Leeds signed David Prutton who had just finished getting relegated from the Prem. If you dont ask you dont get. There might be a good player out there that sees Norwich as a nice play to live and had a soft touch for them as a kid, you never know.

The only way you can find out is by giving them a call.

Sheff Utd have a large squad and have to cut the wage bill significantly as their parachute payments end next year. Hence the reason they cashed in on Beattie even though they were near the top of the table. McCabe is bankrolling them a little, but they have a very very big squad of players on good money. Much the same as we had to sell when our parachute payments stopped.
