You may be interested to know, Derby are waiting until he is 24 (26th June) before they sign him so they don''t have to pay us any compensation

...which is not true because we''ve cancelled his contract. Compensation is only paid where a contract is in place.

Me and my mate spoke to him sat night and told him he owed us another year.

His reply:

If we''d have stayed up he''d have stayed.

He wasn''t offered a contract early enough so had to look about

Kop out!

We replied with... But you owe us.

He looked a bit taken back by it and just said "if we stayed up"....

He did take it well tho, he mustve put up with some squit all night!

Its nothing to do with whether they are signed from our accademy or not - that is just a factor taken into consideration as part of the compensation set by the tribunal. Also nor does his age matter in the way that the original poster suggests - plus if the club has terminated his contract as has been suggested he would be free to sign for anyone. The tribunal''s only happen if the club in question wants to push for it. There are plenty of young players released by their clubs every year who do not feature as part of a compensation tribunal because their original parent club do not wish to push for one. Two quotes from the first link bellow:"For example, in the UK, players under 23 who are out of contract are

only available on a free transfer if released by the club holding the

players'' licence.""With six months or less remaining on an existing contract for players

aged 23 or older, they are free to negotiate with other clubs and sign

a pre-contract, indicating their ability to move to their intended club

on a Bosman transfer once the next transfer window opens."So from both of those Croft is free to sign for anyone he likes whether he is 23 or 24 during this summer. The cut off point is 23 and not 24 as it clearly states that players under 23 - not players under 24.I think the only delay has been waiting to see the results of the play-offs and relegation battles in the premiership. I say that because it may be that a Stoke or a Hull were looking at him as a possible player to get in if relegated and Shef Utd were one of the teams rumoured to be interested at one point. He is free so he will have the pick of any of those interested and there will be more interested because he is free.Links:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_transfer_(football)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosman_ruling
