Dele Adebola

Recommended Posts

I have it on good authority through my connections with Bristol City that Dele Adebola will be joining us next season. Do you think hes a bit past it? or can he offer us that prescence up top that we have been looking for?

Would be a tremendous signing for League 1 but isn''t he being linked with various league 1 clubs?

I hope you are right but I can''t see him chosing us over championship level options.

Adebola can be key to Forest success, says Birtles

Saturday, May 30, 2009, 07:00

BATTERING ram striker Dele Adebola can play a key role in establishing Nottingham Forest as a Championship force.

That

was the message today from Reds legend Garry Birtles, who believes the

capture of the 33-year-old is the most astute piece of business yet by

manager Billy Davies.

Birtles,

the former England front-man, does not claim that Adebola – who will be

officially unveiled at the City Ground when his Bristol City contract

expires in the coming weeks – will fire Forest to promotion single

handedly.

But

he believes the former Crewe, Birmingham, Palace and Coventry player

has the physical attributes that the Reds have been critically missing

in recent seasons.

And he is convinced his capture will be a significant factor in establishing Davies'' side in the second tier next season.

"Adebola is a

significant signing for Forest," said Birtles. "Not because he will

fire 25 goals, because he won''t. His qualities are different.

"He will give the manager an option that he has not had for some time.

"The strikers that Forest have all boast great qualities.

"Nathan

Tyson has pace to burn and an honest attitude, Robert Earnshaw is

perhaps the best finisher at this level of the game and Joe Garner is

an intelligent, sharp operator.

"But what none of the trio have is any kind of physical presence.

"And

that was painfully obvious at times last season, when Forest were

desperate for somebody to hold the ball up up-front and take the

pressure off the defence.

"Forest

just did not have an outlet, at least not against sides who sat deep to

prevent the likes of Tyson and Earnie using their pace.

"Adebola

will give them that, because he has strength and size on his size and

he is a better player than he is given credit for."

Birtles expects Adebola, who netted ten goals for Bristol City this season, to chip in with a fair amount again for Forest.

But he does not expect him to play every week.

"There are times when you need to approach games in a certain way," said Birtles.

"And Davies has not had that option. The size of his front-line has previously prevented him changing things around much.

"They had become a little one-dimensional, at least prior to Dexter Blackstock signing on loan.

"Now Adebola will give them something new and that could be vital."
